It still has its fans. I hope it is back to the quality that it was before Marlin was bought out.

Re: Marlin revives the 444
I bought one from a member here several years back. It is flawless, has Ballard rifling ,JM stamped barrel, some of the best wood I have ever seen on a Marlin, and at a very reasonable price.
With selected loads it will group three in an inch at 100 yd.with a Williams peep sight from a steady rest. I believe it to be one of the last of the GOOD ones. It is NOT for sale !!!

I think I've owned somewhere close to thirty Marlin's chambered for the 444 cartridge . I'm down to three now , two Micro's and a ballard . And my ballard is about 16 years old now !
I have killed a veritable PILE of deer with a 444 and about 90% were with cast bullets .

Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws
"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.

Re: Marlin revives the 444
I hope it's a good seller for them. It's a great cartridge. My 1977 model is without a doubt the most accurate levergun I've ever had. With it's favorite load it's 3 shot cloverleafs at 100 yards. Every other load rivals bolt gun accuracy. Have never shot a load that wasn't at least satisfactory.
Re: Marlin revives the 444
That's kinda like saying who needs a Corvette when they already have a pickup truck ! Or who needs a second child if they already have one .The bottom line is no one really NEEDS most of the guns they have . You don't need a gun to provide food for yourself as long as the grocery is there etc etc etc !! So the word "NEED" left the equation long ago . As I sit here typing this on my phone while I eat a piece of tenderloin from a deer I killed with one of my 444's with a bullet I cast myself .BlaineG wrote:Wow....Who needs a .444 when there are 45-70s out there.....

Me TOO. Both great calibers. The .444 94 Bigbore is light and handy and has more than enough knockdown power out to 200 yards for anything in North America. The 45-70 86 SRC is a tad heavy, but will hammer anything that does or ever had, walked, crawled, flew or swam the planet. Extremely gunsBlaineG wrote: I, too, have both....
