It was a close thing but the arctic weather finally gave me enough of a break to get my January shooting done. Friends Larry, Butch, George, and Steve were along with me but they wouldn't leave the campfire long enough (did I mention that we were in upper 30's for temp but a stiff breeze kept us from getting real comfortable?) to get 10 shots on a target so we only have my stuff. Steve was chained up on all 4 so he broke trail, followed by Butch's Ford and then my Chevy. Then we arrived and I realized I would be trying to turn around in crusty snow with no trail broke because Steve was pinned in ahead of us in our parking area. After the action I ended up just backing out a couple hundred yards until I could swing out through the sagebrush and get back on track the right direction.

First up was the Rem 760 in 300 Savage -- scoped pump rifle cartridge so doesn't count for this, but I do like to shoot it!

One of the guys used my target to sight in his 22/250 so there are a few extraneous 22 cal holes.
Now the one that counts -- Rossi 357, which is my family's favorite lever (even the youngsters like the Williams peep and fiber optic front sights)

Yeah, I know Scrateshooter already has me beat, but not by much! This is my target and I'm feeling lucky to have been able to get it.

I managed to make it to the range today. Had about ten inches of snow on the ground but the day was calm and bright. I shot my Marlin Cowboy 24" octagon barrel in .44 Magnum. Used a light load consisting of a Lyman 220 gr. 429215 cast bullet over 9.3 gr. 231 powder. I make the score to be 91-1x:

From looking at Scrateshooter's target it appears to me he has a round in the X ring also.

It is interesting and encouraging for 'pistol-caliber levergun' fans that on earlmck's targets, the 357 Rossi with open sights did almost as well as the scoped Savage in a true rifle chambering. The groups are essentially identical from a practical/hunting perspective.

Pretty cool stuff.

I finally downloaded and printed some targets, so may join in for February.

Several of my leverguns have the combination of 'Williams peep and fiber optic front sights' like earlmck's.
