New twist for Ultrasonic Brass Cleaner - GRIFF & others!
In a former thread ( http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... =1&t=61926 ), I extolled the virtues of an ultrasonic cleaner for quick and easy brass cleanup.
My Harbor Freight cleaner, like the more expensive Hornady product, has a timer settable up to 8 minutes with a water heater - just perfect for most loads. Two 8 minute cycles will fix almost any tough coloration. In the previous thread, I suggested using a plastic container such as the commonly available Dream Whip empty tub. In that way, you can clean small batches and you never have to clean out the cleaner and worry about the electronics.
You just fill it with a bit of clean water, drop in the tub with the One Shot Brass Cleaner solution and water with the cases, and turn it on.
Today I needed a bit more cleaning power, and the warm water does not work as effectively with the plastic tub. I used a ziplock bag with the cases and solution inside the water bath. It works better than ever, since the thin plastic bag accepts the vibrations better and is more easily heated in the process.
Food for the thought. If I were to do larger loads, I would use a one quart ziplock bag inside the bath - easiest to rinse and clean with no mess to the still-new looking ultrasonic device!

Thanks for the tip. For very large loads, I found that using a large tupperware container serves the same function. I had to cut it down a little to fit the top on... but only use it when not using the heater. I love it for those BP stained cases!

I remember your post on this. Very impressive!Griff wrote:...tupperware container serves the same ..I love it for those BP stained cases!
Recently I really dirtied up some brass, working up some light starting loads for a bullet that is not as well represented in loading manuals. I started out very carefully, and the load was too light.
My little 9mm cases came out black due to insufficient pressure to expand them properly in the chamber - blowback. So the heating function seemed like a plus, to clean them up in a short time. I first used the Dream Whip container. It was just too thick to really heat up.
The bag did the trick, and that is all I will use now. Ziplocks are cheap and I suspect each one will last a long time.
