My pal just gave me a knife that looking over is a true Damascus knife, with elephants ivory.
I called my friend up and pass what I would not keep it .
His dad said (it is for Joe.)
I feel bad for Dean, has a bunch of kids.
Would keep it??
Joe
what would you do!

Re: what would you do!
His dad gave it to you. He obviously wanted you to have it.
IMO you'd be disrespecting your friends dad in refusing the gift, and your friend in fulfilling his dads last wishes.
Heck yes, I'd keep it.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

I agree with what the others said...
But if you would feel better about it, perhaps there is something you could buy that you know Dean wants or likes, or maybe you could get him something he could do with his kids -- like movie passes for all? a brick of 22s for each (if they are shooters)? or a fruits & meat gift basket? -- that you could do for him, to return the kind gesture offered by his dad.
Just a thought...

I have had a similar experience, I kept the knife for 40 years and then gave it to one of his daughter's,a long with the story.

Re: what would you do!
If it bothers you, hang onto the knife until the your pal passes. The it would be a very special gift to his sons, grandsons...

I agree with the good folks that say keep it. In years to come there will be some one in that family that you can pass it on to. I have done that a few times in my old age. Praise the Lord that you have friends like that.

Thank you for your answers. As a gift to Dean, I gave him a bunch of meat from a butcher that he knew.
Dean is a great guy, when he passes I will truly miss him.
