Primitive wooden compass.
Not many reply in the Garand thread so thought you guys would like to see this idea i came up with and made.
I`d like to say also and i`ve said so a couple times that anyone is welcome in the Garand thread, a lot of BS and off topic stuff gets posted there which i figure would just clutter up the board.
Hope to many arn`t mad about it and shut me out here.

Re: Primitive wooden compass.
Pitchy if you have an old gun type soldering gun it can be used to magnatize/demagnatize just about anything steel.
Just put that hacksaw blade between the rods on the gun and pull the trigger. Same thing to demagnatize.
That was a good project for -34 day!!

This forum is kinda like Six's gun-bench, or my barn/garage/pit - pretty hard to 'clutter it up' with stuff. Pert near anything gun-related is of interest, and anything 'sort-of-the-stuff-guys-like-who-like-leverguns' is of interest as well, which means pretty much EVERYTHING other than macrame, weaving doilies, or how to do-up your man-bun is interesting here.
P.S. extra points if it involves:

- hunting, trapping, fishing, or scantily-clad women

My other half was like that... but we were married while I was in Uncle Sam's Yacht Club and being a "surfer" dude from So Cal... she knew that I like wimmins in bikinis better'n Mom's onesy... then... after I got out, I studied Journalism... and photography, before I struck out on my own as a horseshoer... That didn't last more'n a couple of years... then I got a job of a more pedestrian, but stressful nature and needed to relax... so I took up photography again. I had a couple great instructors... and got invited on several "field trips" of a "nature study" type. The first time she looked up at some of my negatives as they were drying... well... the fecal matter hit the atmospheric oscillator... But she finally came to understand that if I wasn't lookin'... something was wrong... might as well throw dirt in my face.

Re: Primitive wooden compass.
I guess when it comes to scantily clad women, or nude ones for that matter, I got a great wife. We were discussing things before the "I do's" and we came up with very few rules for our marriage.
1: Absolutely NO physical violence. Arguments are gonna happen, things might get noisy, but no violence.
2: When it comes to other women or men; look but don't touch.
It's worked for 36 years as of next month, so we must have done something right.

Yeah Mrs fordwannabe and I had an understanding early on she was a cop and worked with almost exclusively men, and I was a nurse that worked with predominantly women(or gay men) we had to trust each other or it never would have worked. Ironically when on duty I actually was being paid to look.

Re: Primitive wooden compass.
Pitchy,
Thanks a big bunch.
Compass got here yesterday way late. I checked the mail about 15:30 and nothing. Wife went out about midnight and it was there. Found it in front of the computer this morning.
It points north, but boy is it sensitive to anything metal near it.
Here's a question; does the little pivot pin go pointy end into the wood, or pointy end to the arrow?

The sundial is something ive thought for awhile, but mostly i just go by daytime or nightime.. How do you set the dial up, does it point north or? I'd like one for up north. Todd/3leg

Re: Primitive wooden compass.
Gunny, thanks to the mountain ranges due east and due west of the White Sands, it's hard to get turned around there. Different story up in the Sacramentos where the canyons seem to run every which way.
Lenn, I saw that story about our wandering North Pole in the morning paper. Weird -- and we may be on the cusp of the first pole reversal in 700,000 years. That might get interesting.

Re: Primitive wooden compass.
Bill I know Alamagordo, I interviewed at a shop there in town back in 93. I got the job but turned it down, low pay and I dont like HOT!
I was there over Easter break and it was in the high 90s, just too hot for my taste.
