Howdah you think of this?
Alright I apologize for the pun.

Something different I guess. I'm not sure I could ever really see using one. But I guess it'd be just the thing for dealing with a car jacker or someone trying to mug you in a phone booth.

I wouldn't mind one of those Diablo's but may have to resort to gaugemates in 12/410....
Didn't realize they were all muzzle loaders, that's OK just load up what you like or can stand..
The link below is one that interested me as the basic shotgun is common and cheap over here and everyone has a hacksaw

Practical? Maybe not. Fun? Heck yes. Some of those short shells or just down load regular length ones. Would scare the heck out of a bad guy. Only thing is who’s going to clean up the brown trail.

Re: Howdah you think of this?
This is a muzzleloader.
I tried to order one when Mike Bellivue mentioned it in an article on using percussion revolvers for self defense. The charge to my visa was denied and the bank fraud department contacted me the next day. They thought it strange that my card was used in my neck of the woods one day and then the next at the gift shop at the islamabad int. airport.
Then.....I looked in my e-mail trash folder and there was a receipt with an order # just as if the charge had went through. In four to six weeks from 28 Feb. they claim they will complete and ship my diablo side by side pistol. We'll see.
B.T.W. the recommended load is 40gr. and 1/2 oz.

I wouldn't mind having one in .28 gauge or .20 ga. Like the old Autoburglar.

Re: Howdah you think of this?
with the 40 gr. and 1/2 oz. recommended load, a 2.7 c.c. scoop or a spent .45 colt case will work for both powder and shot.

The ones with hammers have a decidedly arabesque jezail profile.....Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 7:12 am Those "guncrafters" appear to be severely aesthetically challenged.

Re: Howdah you think of this?
I'm not sure who'd get hurt worse? The bad guy, or the person firing that pistol? It has similarities to the Howdah, but they could make a classier stock offering that was nice walnut, and more like the originals.

Re: Howdah you think of this?
I would like one, especially scaled down to 20 or 28 gauge. Thread drift, anyone remeber the Sile double barrel BP shotgun with 14" barrels by EMF back in the 70's or 80's.

30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

In The Sign of Four he is gimpy and needs a cane for when it is foggy his old wound acts-up.
The ever wandering wound is mentioned in at least three other stories.

Re: Howdah you think of this?
A friend ordered one and after three months of waiting inquired as to order status and e.t.a.
This is the reply:
We have your order in process but things are obviously taking longer than expected.
Here is where we are at:
The frames are in machining and will be done April 18th, then they need to go to mass polishing and finishing
All barrel assembly parts are in machining right now, and welding started last week, see attached video, then mass finishing, then finishing
All other parts are standing by for assembly except hammers are currently in machining
We are still out a few more weeks at least, if at any time you would like to cancel your order just please let us know, otherwise know we are working on getting your order filled
Thank you
Tim

OUCH... :O
Re: Howdah you think of this?
Perhaps not......weighs almost as much as a colt or remington revolver and uses similar loads......a.g.c. recommends 40gr. and a half ounce of shot.
Basically same as shooting a remington with a conical.....

Re: Howdah you think of this?
As an alternative to the hand and wrist damage a 12 gauge pistol can do ( a fellow I know got a badly broken everything on the end of his arm ... numerous operations, etc) I have a sugestion ... 410. At up to 20 feet they can do serious damage. I patterned my nightstand gun ... a Judge with a short chamber. At about 20 feet it held the most beautiful basketball sized pattern you could want. The 45 was lousey but could probably get a torso hit. It now holds 5 410's to act as a deterant 'till I get to the 12 gauge.
Re: Howdah you think of this?
Why is everyone so concerned about the recoil of this thing? It is not going to hurt you with the very mild factory suggested load.

Re: Howdah you think of this?
Finally got my hands on one.....
Owner had to wait over eight months for the thing but baulked at the whole black powder theme and I have temporary custody......
3cc of wano reenactor followed by a cotton ball, well tamped.... then 3.3cc of #5 sheathed in a greased cotton cleaning patch, the superfluous amount acting as a overshot wad, again well tamped.....
target was a 8.5" x 11" used sheet of paper.....distance 10 paces or good safe snake killing space......
too close.....no pattern.....just a ragged hole just above and an inch from the bead.....wad and shot still together.....
next same powder and amount, cotton ball, patched 5/8" steel ball......
same distance.....hit same slight distance from center of paper.....
not too loud.....little smoke due to light charge....
no ouch !!! do I need to repeat that ?

Re: Howdah you think of this?
I don't know about now, but in the 1990s my buddy researched and discovered that he could have a loaded black powder revolver inside his camper, legally, in all 48 states CONUS.
I wonder if this is still true?
