The .380
Yesterday was the 105th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, killed with a lowly .380

Re: The .380
I bet it was an oddly sad day for John Moses Browning.
Re: The .380
I was under the misapprehension that the Duke was killed by a 7,65mm bullet fired from an FN Browning model of 1910.

An FN M1910, serial number 19074, chambered in .380 ACP was the handgun used by Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, the act that precipitated the First World War. Numerous previous sources erroneously cited the FN Model 1900 in .32 calibre as being the weapon Princip used. This has led to confusion over the calibre of the pistol actually used.
Paul Doumer, President of France, was assassinated by Russian emigre Paul Gorguloff on May 6, 1932 with a Model 1910. The pistol is now in the Musée des Collections Historiques de la Préfecture de Police. A Model 1910 was also used to assassinate Huey Long, governor of Louisiana, on September 5, 1935.

Re: The .380
I think the 380 was a submachinegun round too, but I've never seen one. My 380 with truncated cone and flat meplat puts rounds into the same water jug as my 9mm gold dots... seems OK to me.

After some penetration test at various objects the LCP in 380 most assuredly is a very deadly weapon in a compact easy

Re: The .380
Now that is the coolest .380 I've ever seen!
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
Re: The .380
A fair number of subguns have used the .380. I have actually fired a MAC 11. You couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it past 20 feet, but it sure would keep someone's head down.

Re: The .380
Me too Blaine. And Jim, I have a Colt 2nd gen 1862 Police that is still unfired which handles and points so well that I could imagine it converted to .380 and having it's barrel shortened. No, too many projects now.

The guy that invented them said they were for assassinating someone in a phone booth when they were standing inside it with you.

Re: The .380
I would need to look it up, but I seem to remember either Bart or Skeeter Skelton mentioning the .380 and it being able to penetrate well in 2x4 lumber. What I recall is that it penetrated better than .38 Special. That is just memory, and it could be wrong.

Re: The .380
it seems, watching t.v. who-done-its, that the 380 has been supplanted by the 22lr as the assassination round...The guy that invented them said they were for assassinating someone in a phone booth when they were standing inside it with you.
