NR carry permits.

Post by Leverdude »

I'm seriously thinking about getting a Utah non resident carry permit.
It covers 31 states & with my CT permit that'll make 36 states I could carry in.

I can get the Utah one locally, theres a course taught by a Utah instructor at a local shop.

Does anybody else have non resident permits & if so which ones?

Go for it. I think any number of non resident permits would do that for you. My Texas permit is one for example - but since you've got the Utah guy right there.... that'd be the one.

Of course, you have to drive through a bunch of socialist states to get to America....

Yeah I noticed that. They listed the 31 that honored the UT permit & I'm surrounded by states that dont. Heck CT dont either but a CT non res permit aint hard to get. NY I dont think even has a non res permit & I'm not even trying Mass.

Anyhow I mostly hang my hat here in CT & in NH, VT & Maine.
VT has no gun control laws at all, NH honors the UT permit & I think Maine does too.

Florida offers a non resident permit as well.

I have had Utah and Florida non resident permits for 9 years. Florida is around $120.00 although that is not an exact quote. Utah the last I new was $59.00. Florida covers more states. Be sure and check the small print of states you will travel to. Some states, (Fla, Colo, Mich) and some others do not honor non resident permits. And it also varies from state to state where you can, and cannot carry. There is alot of cracks to slip through and there is always reports of police not realizing that their state honors other states. It is always a good idea to travel with proper information about the states your traveling through and too.

Like Birdman said, be careful and check all the regs. There are a lot of states that do not recognize NR carry permits and the ones that don't seem to be growing more with each passing day. Funny why Utah is so widely accepted. Even in WY, I had to take a course to get one and WY is not accepted in as many places as UT. Go figure.

In all honesty I'll probably never use it beyond NH & Maine, but I like the idea that I can if I want to. Thanks for the heads up regarding different local laws & such.

This ones $120 I think just for the course, the permit fees might be included but I doubt it.

How hard is it to get a Fla permit? If I can do it online or thru the mail I'd be interested.

Like someone else said: Be very careful about NR permits. Many won't accept permits not from the state of residence for this very reason.

Note that NH does not recognise a UT NR permit.

I have had my Florida Non Resident permit for a few months now, and its true there are some states that accept the resident but not the non-resident permit. It does though allow me to carry legal in I believe 27 states. I recently made a business trip that emcompassed travel in three states besides my home state of Illinois. Felt good to be legal to carry from the time I left the Illinois border till I had to come back in.
