Re: Leverguns and Assault Rifles....
I wouldn't feel very undergunned with any of my 'pistol caliber' leverguns.

I tickle myself a little bit talking about my CAR 336. As in Cowboy Assault Rifle (Marlin) 336. Nobody else has ever been particularly amused by that, but I'm used to that reaction in a more general way in any event...

COSteve.....just think if you used Taylor Knock Out instead of Muzzle Energy.....the leverguns would be even more favored...!

Re: Leverguns and Assault Rifles....
I alternate between a custom Marlin in 35 Remington and a Marlin in 44 mag as my truck gun, though I have a few AR’s. I feel as tactical with a Marlin throwing 310 grain cast bullets as I do with a poodle shooter. I figure if I NEED more than 20, 44 magnum I figure my thought process was so poor that I probably deserve whatever happens to me. I am waiting for delivery of a 40 smith and Wesson long-rimmed in a Marlin 1894 from 1904. Rimmed case with a 180 -200 grain .401 bullet at 1600-1700 FPS. My kid hates it when I call it that.

Re: Leverguns and Assault Rifles....
Just using the numbers, it is pretty obvious that there are some good choices for home defense in lever action firearms. While it is not a lever action, a Ruger .44 Mag carbine in the older style with a 4 shot tube magazine would not be a bad idea. Reloading is fast as with a lever gun or pump shotgun. It is not too long, and it is accurate.
Many good choices are available. I would be more willing to trust a firearm that I use and am familiar with than some new firearm that was just purchased in a fear induced panic.

Re: Leverguns and Assault Rifles....
While all three of the rifles in the OP's photo are carbines, they are in three distinct classes cartridge wise. Comparing a .30 carbine to a 5.56 is apples and oranges. And since the levergun is a pistol caliber it might, depending on loading fall somewhere in between.
I've always liked the idea of being able to use the same ammo in your long guns and handguns. If were talking using a levergun then my preference would be for the .45 colt. If were talking a semiauto handgun and long gun I'd opt for the .45 acp. When I think of that combination I can't help but remember that my dad's favorites during his European vacation in the '40s were a 1911 and a Thompson.
Sadly carbines in .45 acp are not easy to get in my state. But a semiauto Thompson has a 16" barrel and that would qualify it as a carbine.

Re: Leverguns and Assault Rifles....
You might consider one of these....
https://levergunscommunity.org/viewtopi ... =1&t=62454
Since it isn't a "gun" and is just a "barrel" (or their parlance I think is "upper"), I believe you could get it without a problem....??? Mine has been 100% reliable, and I use it on a Rock Island double-stack 1911, so the 'flush' magazines like in the top photo give it a capacity of 14, which isn't bad. I have a bunch of 20 round ones that are 'extended' which have proven quite reliable so far. The one in the lower photo that just sticks out a little is a 16 round one, I believe.
They make them for Glocks in 45 ACP (or 10mm or 9mm), as well.
I only had the scope on it for sighting-in and accuracy testing (5 shots in 2" 50 yards became easy once I got used to the gun and quit just using random mixed bullet weights and odds-and-ends ammo), and now it wears a compact red-dot. I may replace it with a pair of MagPul AR Peeps though.
