Comments were better than the video!

Back in the Army, lots of guys would forget their code, or lose their key if it was a key lock. I was taught how to use an E-tool to pop a Master lock open. Easy!

Locks are designed to keep A.H.'s our of your stuff......Why would someone do an evil deed like that to show all the lazy people of the world how to steal someone's S. or to aggravate the ones who are protecting their S by changing the combination?
I've often said to myself if I ever catch someone in the act of stealing my S that I'm gonna kill him on the spot due to a lifetime of spending money and time safeguarding my S.

I use the round discus locks that you can't get a bolt cutter in on to cut the hasp. They're key locks, so everyone needing entry has to be given a key, but I prefer them to combination locks.

Padlocks like that are made to keep the low level thief out. They work for most stuff.

ANY padlock is meant to only keep low level thieves out. Padlocks aren't designed to keep serious thieves out. But a standard padlock leaves easy access for a bolt cutter, or easy to break open with a sharp hammer blow. These disc padlocks wont leave enough room for bolt cutters, and the round shape makes hammer glance off.
I've had one tested pretty darn well on a gate. It was so badly beat up I couldn't open it with a key. But whoever beat it up didn't get in either, and that's fine by me.
But if someone needs to use the combination type lock as shown above, don't buy Master. Buy the original that Master tried to copy, a Sesame. I have owned Sesame combo locks for years, and you don't get them open like the cheap master he's getting into.

I read this to say that you know how to open a lock by beating it with a shovel.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Re: I'll bet MasterLock really hates this guy....
Easy. Put the shovel head 90 degrees to the handle and tighten it. 1 good strike on the flat part between the holes where the shackle goes in and a Master Lock would pop open. We all kept an E-tool in our locker, and it was common to have someone lose a key.

It did ruin the lock.

Back when you still had to go to gym, and change into your gym clothes, we all had small master locks on the lockers.. If someone lost their key, the gym teacher, some ex army guy with arms like an olympic weight lifter, would just grab the lock in his hand and wrench it open....
Then he made you run laps....

Re: I'll bet MasterLock really hates this guy....
Most of my dad's rental properties had sheds or a small garage and they would move out or get evicted and leave the locks behind. I always has a really big pair of bolt cutters to pop them off, didn't matter how big they were. Ran into a couple of disk locks, took longer to get the grinder with a cut off wheel out than it did to get past them. I'd just cut the hasp apart and for .99 cents replace it with a new one. A lot of them would change the entry locks while they lived in the property and leave those behind as well. Those were even easier to get into. Twist the knob all the way to the left, a large pipe wrench and another half turn and they snap right off. The new ones with all the cast parts are even easier.

Back before house alarms were common, you would occasionally run into someone who would break into houses using a large pair of channel-lock pliers. Grap the handle in the right spot and a quick twist and you were in. I think it is what JB described.

Re: I'll bet MasterLock really hates this guy....
The hasp any lock is locked to is the real weak point. No matter what the lock is, all hasps are soft and easily cut. What we did was to weld open bottom boxes on gates so you had to reach up inside to put the key in, or look up inside to turn the combination on the Sesame locks. This did a great job of eliminating bolt cutters or grinders, as neither fit up inside the covered locks.
We had one site we were driving into to install a generator, and the property owner gave us the combination, but it didn't work. Called to ask the correct combo, and he insisted it was correct. He told us to cut the lock if we needed to, but that was impossible. Fortunately the generator tech had a cutting torch, but it wouldn't get up inside either. So he literally started melting the lock from the bottom up until it was completely gone, and we could open the gate.

I lock most of my stuff up, but I'm under no illusions.
It'll just slow folks down, and provide proof of forced entry
for the insurance company.
I recently read a review of motorcycle locks - brake locks, cable locks,
chains, etc. The strongest, toughest one took something like 13 minutes
to breach with a cordless grinder. Most of the rest were 5-7 minute jobs.

My late father had a saying. "Locks keep honest people honest."
They wont stop determined crooks, but it does sometimes make them move on to stuff they can steal with less work.
