Re: It's Almost Harley Weather
Its getting close. Should take my bike in and get the drive belt replaced before it leaves my by the side of the road.
Re: It's Almost Harley Weather
Theres a few things I want to do to the bike before the season gets on very far, Im replacing the handlebar control boxes and master cylinder with 70s style, updating some of the wiring to accommodate that (may use pre-box switches and button on the left side and a 40s style clutch lever), have old school FL shift and brake controls and old style half moon footboards, and some 5 gallon tanks that need a little tlc then painted. Im also sniffing around for a right half engine case from late 50s to 69, (a generator case), and maybe one day STD conversion pan heads. The VIN number on the 1984 motor is on the left case, so I can swap out the right case with a generator case for a vastly nicer looking motor. I cant afford what they want for knuckle or pan motors or bikes any more, so will meet in the middle by building an electric start and alternator left half with right half generator with 8 rib cam cover.
Im close to getting the sidecar done, but life keeps having other ideas. I think Im an afternoon or so away from operational though.

77 Shovel with home made hack, took it off last summer.
Belts errrrr, broke one on a 02 chief and one on a 01 road glide with about 30,000 or so miles on them.
Kids 94 Bad boy has 35,000 on it and has a small rock hole in the center and is hanging in there, rocks are the killer but i think all belts arn`t made the same.

Not too many miles, but its an '08, so its 13 years old.
Re: It's Almost Harley Weather
I used to ride more long ago, I was doing 20-25k miles/year on my 47 Knuckle for a while, not so much now. I talked to an old riding partner, about a year ago he said he had around 127K miles on his 2012 bike and decided to do some preemtive motor work so he was ready to keep riding it.

Re: It's Almost Harley Weather
My bike is buried in the front of the garage, and hasn't even been started in maybe 5-6 years? I need to dig it out, clean it up, and get it started, so I can sell it. I didn't even renew my motorcycle license this year, and I've had the endorsement for 54 years!
We had mid 60's here yesterday, and I took the trickle charger off my '39 Chev coupe and drove it to our car club's breakfast. Then took a 3 hour drive just to get some miles on it, and enjoy some time with it. Can't wait for more of the good weather!
