Pics of a couple of recent acquisitions...
After much saving and years of wanting, here are my 2 new acquisitions. A 1948 standard Model 71 and a S&W Model 58. Apparently I like oddball calibers lol
I got the Model 71 for $1800 and the 58 for $1000, so I think I did okay. Not great deals, but just fair deals for 2021.
I’ve only shot the Model 71 a few times so far and the 41 none yet, but I intend to change all that soon.
Sorry the pics suck, but it’s something lol

Very nice tools! You probably already know that those simple, unadorned grips on your Smith are quite valuable. They only made that size & style for the 58, so very few. Very cool.

I think you did good.....like you said, "a fair price".....not a lot of 58's out there. Love a big bore N frame with no sights for social work......I have a 29 like that....
Good quality guns bought at a fair price are better than any 401K plan.....and.....you get to play with them.

That 71 is special and I congratulate you on it's acquisition but man that 58 is the princess of cool. I've owned a couple and only let them get away to brother LEOS. A retired state trooper friend still has one that is "as new" but of course it will be under his coffins pillow.

Hey! I know a guy that likes model 71s!
You oughta seen ole Allan (the gun show organizer) trying to talk me outta one of mine
I just laughed at him. Especially after pointing out that the deluxe had $750 worth of sights and sling swivels.

Thanks guys!
I should also add a thank you to Vance for hooking me up with a few things to get started reloading for the .348!
I was wondering if you ever sold either of those 71s this weekend, Vance. I would’ve liked to have witnessed the attempted negotiation lol
I sure wouldn’t have moved on either of them either......

Two great acquisitions, congratulations...

Re: Pics of a couple of recent acquisitions...
After owning a 86 Winchester , the natural progression is the 71!
Fantastic firearms. Both classics in there own right.
Good stuff is not cheap, it's only going up from here.
Congratulations

A feller could consider himself "all set" with those two.

I'm a 41 Magnum fan - I like that Model 58!

I have never held a .41 Mag, but they have earned a good reputation. I would never turn one down if it were offered for a cylinder full of "try this" at a gun range.

Re: Pics of a couple of recent acquisitions...
Id love to shoot and reload for a Model 58.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
