Favorite 348 Loads
For what it is worth I thought I would share some 348 loads that have worked well for me. Especially like 59 grains of IMR 4350 over a 200 Hornady or Remington. I have used this one for a lot of years. Same bullets 53 of IMR 4895 shoots to the same place and as well. Both are a grain under max per my Lyman book and not starting loads. Have not had much luck with 3031. Will be trying some 4064 next. Not sure why I don't just stick with 4350 but it is fun to test....anyone have any they would like to share??
Re: Favorite 348 Loads
Wlfr, I have no experience with 348, but it does appear to be comparable to 30-06? I've been reloading and testing my 30-06 lately and I have no doubt you'll do well with 4064!
I've been using A4064 and settled on my most accurate load with it. And it gives me same results in my 30-30. Its no speed demon, but the most accurate and consistent powder I've tried from starting load to max! It and IMR4064 seem to run neck to neck but maybe a grain or so apart? If 4350 is good in your rifle, then I believe either 4064 will be just as accurate if not better??

Re: Favorite 348 Loads
Greetings Woodsloafer. I've tested WW760, IMR4320, 4064, 4895, and 3031 in mine. All with the 200 Hornady. I settled on 49.5 of the IMR 3031 in my rifle. Under the max Hodgdon lists but it still chronographed 2390 at the muzzle and 3 shot groups averaged 2.2" at 100 yards (open sight). Obviously each rifle is different. My 71 is incredibly sensitive to barrel heat. I have to let the barrel cool a long time between shots when I am testing, otherwise can only do 3 in a row before I start getting shotgun patterns! So much so that it really isn't too fun to shoot. Two examples: shot a group with a cold barrel that measured just under an inch using a max load of WW760, then did another with a hot barrel. The group was over 9"! Same thing with my IMR3031 load. The 2.2" average, cold, opened up to 8". I never tried your 4350 and probably wont. Got too much stuff and may thin the herd. Couple of friends have their eyes on my 71 so who knows. What a beautiful rifle though...top of the line in levergun evolution.

Re: Favorite 348 Loads
I will have to try some 10 shot groups to see how much my 4350 load opens up. I have never noticed them opening as much as yours does but certainly worth checking. !0 shots should be a good test. Thanks to both of you for your comments. I use 4064 in my 308 and it works better than anything else so far. We will see how it does in the 348.
