levergun purchase, you WON'T believe this .....

Post by new pig hunter »

2 hours ago I arrived at the SoCal gunshop to pick up the Marlin 375 I bought 2 weeks ago. Signed the paperwork, the guy put the 25+-year-old, never-fired Marlin 375 into the Original Box with Original J.C. Penney $189.99 sales tag still attached !! Adoption complete ..... I almost walked out when,

the guy (Eric) says, "hey, here's the fraternal twin rifle from the same consignment deal, a 444SS in .444 Marlin caliber, new, never fired ...."
I say, "how much ??"
Eric says, "$399"
I say, "I'll give you $375 right now."
Eric says, "SOLD !!"
I hand to him a Visa card.
Eric annotates onto the .375 DROS form the serial number for the .444 Marlin .....

I walk out of the store with THE FRATERNAL TWINS !!! BOTH the .375 and .444 !!!!!!

essentially an over-the-counter sale of the .444 Marlin .... in California ..... go figure ......

Still In Disbelief,

Carl

I had a similar experience with two Browning 1885 Traditional Hunters. One a .45-90 the other a .38-55. I bought the .45-90 returned to the same shop several days later and .38-55 was sitting on the shelf so I bought it too. Both rifles were previously owned by the same gent. 1886.

Some of us other SoCal people would like to know where this honey hole is.
Doubt you'll tell us, lol.

Sounds like you made out big time.

Like Ol' Jerry Reed said, "when yer hot---yer hot" I've got a new .444, never shot it yet, but I will do that right away. Deer season is close, be nice to get one here, you get one there.

I was in a pawn shop today near my house and he had 2- Marlins both 336's 1 in 375 $669, other one 444-$499 and would not come down. Both far from being new. "You should be ashamed of yourself for stealing those guns like that". A 189 dollar price tag,
That was the good ole days.

Is the name of that gun shop "Southern California Guns" between Clairemont Mesa Blvd and Balboa Ave. on Convoy St. in San Diego, CA? If so, I used to buy and sell guns there frequently when I lived there.

Oh, good deal on the guns.

pictures ... you guys are funny, like you've never seen a Marlin lever action before .....
looks like ModocEd's signature picture above, but no fancy checkering, just basic smooth wood ...

the store in question is Uncle Paul's Gun Exchange in Ventura .... they might still have a Marlin lever action in .35 Remington ....

Cheers,

Carl
