I missed your cut off date by five years but thanks to two things I am fortunate enough to know what you're talking about.
1) In the backwater where I live the Lyric Theater (a "grand" (by today's standards) old small town movie theater: one huge screen, three rows of seats, a balcony, velvet ropes and a "crying room" with piped in sound and sound proof glass) stayed open until about 80. It would show cartoons before the show and serials too on the weekend matinees. And, IIRC, the matinees showed the movies from the previous week (with the cartoons/serials) at a reduced price.
2) Matinee at the Bijou: I loved watching that as a kid.

I had Tex Ritters albumn which had Hillbilly Heaven on it. Played the heck out of it.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
