It's kind of funny actually... As I have people thanking ME, Jeremy is thanking US, and we're all thanking HIM (as we should); so I just have to share this short story with you all...
Today at work, somebody asked "So, what good are you up to these days Hubbard?" And of course, I told them all about Project Sword and how in just over 24 hours, over 30+ forum members had pledged enough funds to get JReed a top quality NCO Sword -- and by the way, it looks like we can get his special-request name laser-etched on it (I will hold THAT name as a surprise, for Jeremy to share with the forum when he posts his pictures later).
She thought this was pretty cool. But then I told her I was starting to feel a little guilty, because I didn't wake up at oh-dark-thirty a few nights ago with a need to "feed the hungry" or to "clothe the poor"... Nope, I woke up with the thought... "Hey, let's buy that really nice Marine with the young kids and family to feed the NCO sword he really wants!" After I shared this thought, she said the most remarkable thing...
She said that when Jeremy, his family, his friends -- as well as all our forum members (pledger's and watchers too) repeat this story -- many of them will be inspired to help someone else with a random act of kindness. These acts of kindness will thus grow and spread goodwill -- including $$, food and clothing -- to others who are in need. So in her words... We ARE "doing good" by doing good! Wow, what words of wisdom, I just had to share that story...
For those who have not yet paid their pledges, or for others who are just getting in, below are the details for making donations to Project Sword.
(a) I will keep a full accounting of all the funds received, and will share those details with Hobie when all this is completed, just so all is on the "up and up". (All e-mails for PayPal payments get a personal thank you reply sent back; as will all members who pay by mail.)
(b) Please INCLUDE YOUR USER NAME when you send in your pledges, as that is how we will track this -- not to track "you" per se -- but to track ME, so I can fully account for all pledges made.
(c) Forum Members who want to donate by PayPal can do so using my home e-mail address: "4Hubbs AT tidewater DOT net" (Just remember to eliminate the extra SPACES and change CAPS to an "@ and .") I will cover any fees deducted by PayPal, when it's time to withdraw funds donated. (Several members have added a buck or two as well, to cover the PayPal fees -- thank you!)
(d) Others who wish to send a personal check, bank check or money order can mail it to me at this address: Darryl Hubbard, c/o Project Sword, 33 Keene Woods Road, Damariscotta ME 04543.
(e) We'll give everyone 2 weeks to get their pledges in, and I will keep this posting updated once per week with how we're doing. (Again, please include your USER NAME).
(f) Later on, I will also post an HONOR ROLL to recognize all the kind forum members who answered the call.
Finally, Jeremy has promised to post pictures of the sword on this forum once he receives it -- can't wait for that day!!!

Republic. I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words give you a feeling. Republic is one of those words that makes me tight in the throat . . . . Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words.
Check went out in today's mail.
I agree with Ysabel, I think it comes with the everything, but let's make sure he gets his name on the blade. There is an approved location for that, and it makes it a truly individual sword.

Has an approved USMC NCO sword and info on personlization.

You all are gonna love the inscription but you are going to have to wait until I can take pics to find out what it is. I will give a tease it is my Christmass gift to you all.

Mine will be going out tomorrow. I just found this on the new board here. I was wondering when it would get carried over with the address.

I'll put my $20 check in the mail today, but speaking of accessories, how about including a razor edge to make it an honest-to-God weapon, if ever needed as such, instead of just something symbolic & cosmetic. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sword, if it doesn't come with an edge, is like a non-firing M-16. I think you get my point. Just my 2 cents, jd45
These swords are for cerimonial use and only authorized for wear in dress and service uniforms. So an edge isnt needed but I can attest to the fact that the points are sharp and will cut and stab quite well. I have about taken my ear off a couple of times doing sword manual .
