OT: Slightly - Good service from a SD gunsmith
I had an old military trainer rifle in .22RF. It had a rough bolt, and did not fire. I am a shotgun guy, I don't mess with stuff I don't know about. I set out to find someone to make this work. TWO gunsmiths said it wasn't worth messing with and wouldn't touch it. Another one told me it COULD NOT be fixed.
I found Jack First Gun Shop in South Dakota. www.jackfirstgun.com
They told me over the phone they thought they could do the job. I sent it. Gave me a quote of $68 not withstanding any unforeseen problems. I got it back in 9 days.
They replaced the firing pin and spring. They lapped the bolt. They had to make a few pins from scratch to replace worn, bent and broken pins. They fixed the barrel lug (I didn't tell them about it but I knew it was broken). They recut the rear sight dovetail and fixed it since it was loose in the slot. (I never mentioned that either). They sent me a note saying they tried to find me a replacement butt plate since mine was cracked. No luck - but they tried.
The gun works great and the repairs are perfect.
The job was $88.
I have to recommend these guys if you are nearby, or can't find someone to fix your guns problem. They also stock tons of old and obsolete parts.

Yeah, Ruppelt is good but I've found the last couple years, he's hard to get ahold of. I've left lots of messages on his machine but he's never called me back and I never see him at shows anymore. I'd like him to do a bit of work on my Sidewinder.gregg wrote:86er where you live and whats your conection to http://www.TARSporting.com

"People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work."

I was hoping that SD gunsmith would be in San Diego. We sure could use a good one down here.
