115gr bullets will drop a Ram

I was coaching a new shooter yesterday. He shows up for his first silhouette match with a 25-35, for big bore, and a 357mag for pistol caliber. The .357 loads were CAS squib loads and the 25-35 had a 115gr bullet. He ending up shooting a 14, with the 357, and an 11, with the 25-35 which is not that bad for your first match. He actually downed 3 of the big rams, with that little 115gr bullet, by hitting them in the butt. He had a blast, but will definitely make some changes for next months match.

I'm ignorant on these matches.......how big/heavy are the targets?

They're about 24"x30" and weigh about 55-62 pounds. At 200 meters they look small and the bullet needs a little energy to knock them down. The butt is usually a good balance point, to aim for.

I'm sure a 125 would work fine on a Rahm... not my caliber though.

I use my .357x180gr for Big Bore.

Works just fine.
