Hi Tusker, and welcome to the friendliest forum on the net. Plenty of leverguns in the clubs I belong to here in the UK, including 45-70s, 444s and 40-65s, plus of course all the British Western Shooting Society members who have leverguns.

G'day Tusker and welcome to the forum.
I am a visitor here myself because I am in Australia.
Hope you find something to shoot with that 45-70!
They are a popular cartridge here in Australia, not as popular as the 30-30, but probably a slow second.
Enjoy the forum
Pop.

:D Wow, you all seem a very friendly bunch.I will try to sort out some photos of the 45-70.
I,ve had the gun for about 4 years now and the only time i use it properly is to hunt driven boar in Eastern Europe. It is not legal to use it on deer in this country because of the low muzzel velosity. We are going to Slovakia in November for a 2 day hunt photos will follow.
My son also has a levergun in 357.
Are there any boar in Montana as i will be on holiday there in September?

Welcome -- cool to see that you can have leverguns in England ! (what more do ya need) I was under the mistaken impression that a lot of firearms were frowned upon there :D

I just purchased an 1895 a couple of weeks ago myself --- i havent had the chance to take it on a hunt, but it brings a smile at the range already

From Fridgid Wisconsin....WELCOME!

I'm sure there are some boar in Montana, but doubt if many hunt 'em there. Most go after a little larger game.

It figures only in England. Low muzzle velocity isn't what causes wounded animals, it is poor shoots. Beside energy has more to do with one shoot animal stops than velocity ever will. On top of that the 45/70 bullets will out penetrate the higher velocity calibers every time. Look at the following web site for the truth about the 45/70 abilities to stop game.

Onya Tusker,
Welcome to the forum mate. Cannot understand why your place is not surrounded by a SWAT team having admitted to owning a levergun in pommy land. Local plod must be slack eh?. Enjoy the forums here, plenty to be learned. 1895 is a fine tool. Reloading info or any help you require just ask the forum. Enlightened conversation, that may appear too.
