Old Photo-Marlin lever with fox.
I thought you marlin collectors would like this one. Notice he keeps the butt off the ground with his toe.

That's great! Looks like either a Model 1892 or 1897.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Rangerider - Wow, that is a sharp photo. Any idea of the year it was taken ? I also wondered if this guy went and got his suit to pose in, or were those his hunting duds ?
You've got a great ability to hunt down these old photos. Thanks for sharing 'em. - DixieBoy

Truly a neat photo, and since he has such a nice Marlin we will have to forgive him for the chamber pot on his head!

By the dirt on the clothes, I would say that is what he hunted the fox in. Cowboys in the old days wore white shirts buttoned up with a cravat and vest to work cattle in. That looks to be a carriage behind him so it was probably before the turn of the century. I like how proud of that rifle he is. Neat photo.

That's a real cool old photo. I love the stern expression on his face. I also appreciate how he is protecting the rifle's butt by keeping it on his boot top.

Shame on you! A rimfire guy calling that a 1892 or 1897? There's no mag tube release, and the frame is too long for either of those. Looks like a 1894 to me.jdad wrote:That's great! Looks like either a Model 1892 or 1897.

I like the fact that he's got the butt on his boot. It shows that he was a man who took good care of his guns.

Exactly! You can tell He takes a lot of pride in that Marlin and rightly so since He probably worked pretty darn hard to save up for it.

Re: Old Photo-Marlin lever with fox.
I love old photos. I am constantly searching on the net for good sources, plus I have a couple of long time collectors that specialize in old cabinet and tintypes. We trade back and forth, but most are on the net.

Re: Old Photo-Marlin lever with fox.
I don't know but I have a 1894 25-20 just about like it. Mine was made a bit later so I'm sure mine is not the one. I know how he feels though, they are great little handling rifles.
