Another enduring question: "How many years of actual real-world exposure is equivalent to 1000 hrs of ASTM B117 Salt Fog testing?"

Unfortunately, the nature and intricacies of corrosion damage and relevant testing are easily misunderstood within the broader engineering/scientific community. The many different corrosion test procedures can be confusing, controversial and applied inappropriately when their fundamental principles, advantages and limitations are not understood. Ergo sum, depending on the dynamics of your test, the answer is variable.Noah Zark wrote:Another enduring question: "How many years of actual real-world exposure is equivalent to 1000 hrs of ASTM B117 Salt Fog testing?"

I always thought a woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could if a woodchuck could chuck wood?Rusty wrote:Is that anything like how much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?

Why are almost all races (track& field, NASCAR, horse races, greyhounds, etc) run counter-clockwise?

When my customers ask, I usually respond by saying, "It's irrelevant anyway; there's no place on the planet where there's 5% salt fog occuring naturally."
Then I give them the technical lecture about vagaries of B117, etc., and the development of cyclic accelerated testing as a real-world accelerated simulation, etc., until their eyes turn glassy . . .
