New guy; went to the range today.

Post by soon 2 retire »

Hi,

I'm a new guy;been hovering around a while. I'm 60 and geographical location is about 5 - 7 miles from JReed (haven't met the young man but have talked to him on the phone). I went to the range today and intended to shoot my pre-64 '94 30-30 and my 9422M. First I took 5 shots with my dad's old Win. Mod. 75 bolt action 22 with Rem thunderbolts then I took 5 with Rem subsonics. Then the mowers came to get the range ready for fireworks on the 4th and I had to go. So no levers today. Until 2 weeks ago the 75 hadn't been shot since Lyndon Johnson was president. We've moved 5 times and the scope has never been adjusted. It's an old Weaver J4, w/3/4" tube. I used a friend's lead sled. The group in the center (less than 1/2") is the thunderbolts and the lower one (1 1/8") is the subsonics.
I may give it another try Sunday to shoot the levers.

Welcome, we were all new guys at some point.

Nice shooting, but c'mon, you were using a target rifle, lol.

My non-lever 22 is a 1929 Winchester M52 Pre-A,
does the same thing if'n I do my part.

I don't know "soon" looks like one or two shots missed the nickle sized bull. And JReed is near there - sounds very suspicious to me.

It was the gun and lead sled; i just pulled the trigger. Off hand I wouldn't hit anything. I never thought of it as a target rifle; it was the old man's squirrel gun. I know now why they had neat little holes in their melons. He was a hard workin' guy with big hands and liked the meaty feel of the 75.

OS,

I'm trying to set up a little shoot with JReed and a couple of my friends for next weekend. One of the guys is ex-Marine who is really looking forward to it. But, trying to get several guys together on the same day at the same time is like trying to herd cats.

By the way "Soon" is "Not so soon" now that I have a 201K not a 401K.

Always nice to see a tool still works exactly like it is supposed to. That's why many of like guns so much; try firing up a computer or modern automobile after 40 years of disuse...
