OT: Handsaws
Need to invest in a cross-cut and ripsaw. Other than going to Fleet Farm and buyinga couple of Stanley type saws, Is there any other brands that are comparable to or better?
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Re: OT: Handsaws
what are you planning on using them for?
there are some high end saws out there.
like all things you will pay for quality.
try these, to start

http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/
as with my rifles i prefer to search out the old stuff, seems to be better quality to me.
good hunting.
edit: old hand tools are my other hobby/obsession if you want more links
i have some, if you want old, i can recommend a few sources there as well.

Wow,
I didn't know there was anyone out there that knew the difference anymore.
My Grandfather wouldn't allow a power saw on a jobsite until well into the '50s.

My Dad was a carpenter and use to swear by Diston (sp) saws. I still have a couple but they are getting narrower from sharpening them. That is an art in itself and you need the proper saw set to give enough width of cut so your saw wont jam.

I learned carpentry from my Father-in-law, he learned from his Father-in-law.
Diston is the only brand they ever used.
You can know the quality by the bolts in the handle. Top of the line will have five bolts, four bolts is next best, three bolts is utility grade.
