Looking for a few 375 Win recipes.

Post by 86er »

Two friends each just got a 375 Win, one a 94AE XTR, the other a Marlin. They want to reload due to the limited availability of cartridges. They have the books necessary, however are seeking anyone who can provide a recipe they have had good luck with. Any bullet info is important, and any stories of results on game are appreciated. BTW - whitetail deer, black bear and elk and the intended targets.

I have one in a Winchester. I have had the best accuracy with the Hornady 220 and 36.0 gr. of RL7. I have shot several three shot groups under one inch @ 50 yds. Many others report best accuracy with that exact load as well. AA1680 will get you a little more speed, but has never matched RL7 for accuracy.

I have only hunted mine with cast bullets. The RCBS 37-250 cast from wheelweights, 30.0 gr. of RL7 gives me right at 1900 fps and is quite accurate. About 2 inches @50 yds with a Williams receiver sight. Only killed one whitetail with it so far. Shot was broadside about 50 yards. Hit him right in the breadbasket. He ran about three or four bounds and piled up.

I have had good accuracy and ballistic consistency results with the listed load in my BB 94. W/W .38-55 brass 2.075", Hornady 220gr FP, CCI -300 primers, and 37grs of RL-7. Brass preped on Redding .375 Win dies. A .370" expander was utilized to achieve proper neck tension. Heavy crimp was applied with a Lee FCD. Cartridge O.A.L. as measured on a .375 Stoney Point comparitor is 3.225". This load clocks right at 2350FPS adjusted from the muzzle. I have not worked up a satisfactory cast load with this rifle. I have not worked up a jacketed load for my Marlin .375. This rifle has proven itself a capable cast shooter however. W/W .38-55 brass 2.075", 33.5grs 2495, CCI -300 primers, M&P cast bullet .377" #375449,264grFN gas checked and cast at approx. 20 brinnell. Brass preped on Redding .375 Win dies with .372" expander. Lee FCD used to apply a moderately heavy crimp. The bullet was seated to the crimp groove. This load clocks at 1550FPS and is very accurate as well as consistent. For a faster load I have substituted 35grs of H-4895 with no other changes. This load clocks at 1725FPS and is also accurate and consistent. As always, safe in my rifles work up slowly in yours. 1886.

I use the same load that TedH uses.

In my Marlin 375, my load is 37 grs. of RE-7, behind the Hornady 220gr bullet using Remington #9 primers for about 2150fps. With a Weaver K4-1 scope, this is a 1 - 1-½MOA rifle. Haven't used it on anything but a coyote in the pasture. Knocked it lid over teakettle @ about 150 yards! It will do.

That's a very rare bird. I have only personally ever seen top-eject XTRs. A pic would be nice, if you have such.

My load is very similar to the ones listed above:

375 winchester very versitle

If you use aa1680 and 235 gr speer bullets as a single shot you will be very suprised.I shot 1" groups with my rifle.I started with 35 grs and worked up to 38 grs.I also loaded 300 gr fmj bullet with aa1680.They are pretty accurate.I also loaded the 220 gr hornady bullets up to 2400 fps with aa1680.I do like that powder in both the 357 maxium and the 375 winchester.

The recipe ( I haven't tried it ) seems to be 36 or 37 gr of RL7 and a Hornady 220 whenever this comes up.

33 grs of Norma 200 powder give a Barnes 255grs a velocity of 2100 fps out my Win 94BB. Good accuracy - 1½-2 inch with iron sights.

Another RL-7 vote, but I have some test rounds ready for the next trip to the range loaded with AA2200.

Don't over look using IMR 3031 powder....I use it in my 30WCF, 38-55, & 375 Win with very good results.

The first thing your freinds should be buying is a book called ,,MODERN RELOADING,,written by Richard Lee.
