A real huntin' rifle with a fine sight on it.

Negative! The finish on older Marlin rifles was second to none. My first-year 336ADL's receiver matches the one shown above.

I wish Marlin would put a bolt cover like that on all their rifles. That is the only thing I do not like about the Marlin's. They make you look at that unsightly bolt. Was it for sale?? Tom.

Marlin wouldn't go back to doing that any more than they'd go back to slender forearms.

Bolt. It's sad that Marlin decided to only offer that ABOMINATION forearm after the 1893 was changed to the 1936. That is so ugly that I can't bear to carry my 1950 vintage 336A. I will replace the forearm with a slim one soon.

That is the bolt, they were square and flush with the receiver in the old days, the round bolt is a production shortcut. But, I have a design for a bolt cover that is dovetailed into the receiver and fastened to the rear of the round bolt to replicate the look. I made one up and it worked, but I don't have the time or equipment right now to do them on a commercial basis.

My daughter bought this for me at an estate auction last year. She was proud of herself she outbid two old guys! Told me I hope you like it I had to pay 300 for it. I told her she did just fine.Image

Nice looking Marlin there, Stinkycat. It looks just like my late father's old model 1936, except that Dad's old gun's color hardening faded away years ago. You and Dad both had some version of a Marlin that had a relatively slim, tastefully done forearm. I'll never understand why, on later models, Marlin went for the ugly, ungainly forearm look.
