Anyone shooting this weekend?

Post by TedH »

We are going to the Salute to Veterans Airshow tomorrow, family stuff on Sunday, but on Monday I'm going to be at the range at 6:00 am! I've got some cast bullet loads to try in a few leverguns. 30-30, 356 Win, 375 Win, 45-70.

Who else is going to get some range time in?

Yep.

Local club is having an informal play day and picnic Saturday. I'll be shooting my Browning BPCR .40-65, plus doing some practice for the following weekend's Levergun Regional match. I see lots of reloading in my future! :D

Hopefully I'll be going. Been about a month since my last outing.

Taking a couple of 1911s, 45Colt Trapper, and a 1894c. May run a few loads over the chrony.

Yeah, I think. I need to load some 405 winchesters up and take that and the 500 S&W NEF with cast boolit loads and check em out. And maybe my Tokarev and the "new" batch of milsurp ammo to check (Romanian).

On Monday. My buddy Tom and I are gonna give a couple of his full auto M-16's a workout up on his mountain property. I'll probably bring a few SA Colts, possibly a 99 Savage.

Went up to the shooting range at 4pm today, walking up a log trail and this huge crash.
Here is this huge black bear huffing and grunting and pushed over a tree!

Lucky I had my Model 70 (7MM Mag) I raised the gun/yelled at him took a step forward (my place, aint retreating for no one or no thing ) then he started the teeth clicking stuff. I was already ticked because he tore a screen section off my enclosed patio that I had to fix at 2pm.

Man, I almost wished he tried and charged me! (was about 75ft away)This bear is a problem because people down the road feed him birdseed. Told the wife and kid stay out of the woods a few days till I sort this out!
My buddy is bringing me up tonight some 12ga rubber slugs and also some rubber 00 Buck!
Behind those first two(1 of each) are 3 Brenneke 540grain Green Lightings. And the Buck general on the side!

That just sucks. Those who do not understand wildlife make life miserable and dangerous to those who do. :(
Hope you can deal with this in a timely fashion!

Went this morning and had a great time.

Took the Springfield GI model and Colt 1991A1 - just as a little tribute to the old/new soldiers

Also carried my 1894c and Win94 Trapper in 45Colt.

I gotta' say, those two are scary accurate. At 100yds with the iron sights both were cutting 1-1.5" groups.

I was so happy with the performance of those I didn't even bother shooting the 22lr

I'd certainly hoped to. SASS club's annual shoot was this weekend. I came in on Thursday, was going to load ammo on Friday and off to camp and be amongst 'em on Sat & Sun... but... early Friday morning woke with headache, sniffles and tickle in throat... developed into fever (102º), drainage to equal the "Bid Muddy" and hackin' like a 2 pack a day smoker by evening. Wife sez, "...you ain't loadin' ammo... guess you ain't goin'."  :x

So I've sat here and bugged ya'll all weekend!!!! Now it's off to work again!!!

Last night at about 2am that big sucker showed up.(problem is the old guy that feeds him is in the hospital)
It was like out of the movie the edge---ya know when those guys were at the campfire when it was raining /lightning and the bear showed up(right before he ate the poor black guy)

Anyhow,I was sitting in the dark---- big enclosed screened patio at the opposite side where I repaired the screen the bear ripped apart.
It was raining cats and dogs, and big bolts of lightning coming from everywhere.Had a Mag flashlight ready to flick on. Then I heard a "snap" of a bush/then lightning lit up the porch nothing/then dark again.

Then about 1 or 2 minutes later a rip??coming from that same direction,Safe off/gun raised and before I could switch the flashlight on a big bolt of lightning, and there she blows just like on the edge in the foggy rain a BIG BEAR standing there (40ft away) starting to come in the screen.Boom, I let a Fiocchi Rubber Slug go.
That brute let out the loudest/deepest noise I think I have ever heard. Big time mzzle flash cant see anything now and all I hear are branches breaking as he tears up the mountain!
He was not standing up but on all fours and was big enough that his front chest(where I blasted him)was exposed and the wall of the patio is 4ft of concrete block before the screen starts??

Last year they estimated he was around 650-700lbs???
Will see if that does the job! Repaired the screen again???

Hope that keeps him away. Under those circumstances though, I think I would have opted for a lead slug instead of rubber. He may not revisit your place for a while, but I bet he continues this type of behavior elsewhere.
