Makes sense, but might get a bit dirty and if raining, might put wet stuff up above the passenger's head once it closes.

I kind of like the top-hinged ones too, like on a Lotus.

Realistically, until a Chevy CK-2500 or Ford F-250 has them, I'll stick with what they offer...

How do the windows roll down? If they do not how do you get out of the car in the event of a mechanism failure or an accident?

I just had a window regulator fail and had to drive about 500 miles in 70-51° weather. The wife wasn't happy. To have the door fail would have been a REAL pain, literally.

I'm going to guess that there is a failsafe/manual override much like with the power doors on a mini-van. As for the windows?

RihmFire: Merceds pioneered the gull wing door back in 1952. See--

When I was wee lad growing up around NYC, the M-B cars with them always drew a crowd of spectators. Really unique and very ex$pensive if I recall correctly.

I got to ride in a 300 SL about 40 years ago. Great car but there is a reason gull wing doors arn't on all cars today. I'll keep my used '02 Vette roadster, as if I could afford a gull wing MB.
