OT/Humor - The Arrogance of Authority

Post by Pete44ru »

(Although this one's been around awhile, I think it's worth repeating)

A DEA officer stopped by a ranch in West Texas, and had a talk with the old rancher there.
He told the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs."

The rancher said, "Okay, but don't go in that field over there," and pointed out the location.

The DEA officer suddenly exploded verbally, saying,: "Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me."

Then, reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher.

"See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land. No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand?"

The old rancher nodded politely, apologized, and went about his chores.

Shortly, the old rancher heard loud screams coming fom the indicated field, and saw the DEA officer running for his life, chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis bull.................

With every step, the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it seemed likely that he'd get gored before he reached safety.
The officer is clearly terrified.

The rancher quickly threw down his tools, ran to the fence, and yelled at the top of his lungs:

"Your badge. Show him your BADGE ! "

An oldie, but goodie. Unfortunately, that attitude is endemic among those employed by the government, and gets worse the higher up you go.

There's one about a kid and a senator on an airplane and the kid asks a dumb question, that is along similar lines. (...wish I could actually remember it... :| )

There's only one joke I remember consistently, and it is probably too off-color for this forum.

While I have no doubt that something similair has happened if some one failed to inform the officer of the danger of going into the pasture these days I would hate to here the charges against the farmer!
