Seems a little high to me. The metal may be a 65% to 80% original but I think the wood has been refinished. Maybe $5000 plus or minus.


BTW, good to hear your wife is doing well.

IMO a long way too high. Refinished wood and corrosion from poor storage and lack of care. I paid $2500 less for a .45-90 ELTD with special ordered features earlier this year. Shop around, you can do MUCH better.

As usual, his DOM is way off. The ACTUAL DOM of that gun is 9/1903. If he bothered to check with Cody he would have to change his tune. Sellers who use outdated and incorrect DOMs of their guns, especially outrageous claims claims of "antique" status, are flirting with fraud.

That is way too darn high! If it had all the dies and about 20 boxes of factory ammo then maybe. I got a M-86 in .33 back about 5 or so years ago and give 1500 for it. It is a Takedown. I got all the dies and some ammo with it. I know that my time span probably would raise the price on mine but still---!

I'm no expert. I have to agree with Mike.......the wood just doesn't match. Also I would want it lettered from Cody, IF I were interested, at HALF that price.

Dave, 145330 is 1908 and I can get the info from them tomorrow morning. Being what it is I see no reason for it not to be correct. IMO, he has a $3200 rifle, especially considering the blems. BTW, the "A" suffix in the serial number does isn't a factor as far as Cody is concerned. It indicates that the gun has the threaded mag tube, something all lightweights have.

Mike and I are in close agreement. I would put it in the middle to high 3's. With the exception of the varnish, the guns appears "right". For 100+ year old guns, you can expect to find a few areas of light corrosion and as long as it is not deep and nasty, I can live with that.

Old time guncranks who have been playing with the old guns are used to seeing nice stuff here and there, but like 1866's, 1886's with "condition" are drying up fast and the price rises on these guns as the available supply fades away. If I really wanted that gun and I had the money, I would pay 38.-----------Sixgun

Jack, I looked at a bunch of those extra fine 1886s at last month's Big Reno Show. Many were priced above 10Gs, with a few close to 4 times that . There was a ELW .45-90 with a 2" longer than standard, for the caliber, barrel. Standard for the larger diameter bore ELWs was 22" and this gun wears a 24" tube and 3/4 mag. It is clean, with about 70% metal finish and better wood and priced at $4200. It hasn't sold in the 2 yrs that I have ogled it, so maybe next year I might take the bait and make a serious offer of something in the neighborhood of $3900 and see if it can be reeled in. If I ain't broke by then that is.

That is somethin' on the exlwt 45-90. 42 sounds more than reasonable, even in these times of the monetary loss of fine collectables that we have been seeing.
