Cleaing brush size for AK 7.62x39

Post by grahng »

I choose not to remain ignorant or have a dirty barrel, so what size cleaning jags and brushes do I need for my new AF 47?

Thanks and hope everyone had a really great Christmas!

.30 cal. You could look for an AK cleaning kit too.

You may want to use .312 bore diameter brushes, the ones used for .303 British. The bores on the Ak's are .310. The .30 may be a little loose.

A bore snake would be handy... and will prevent muzzle wear from cleaning from the front.

If you shoot Yugo milsurp ammo, which is excellent, do remember to clean the gas piston and tube, port with hot water and then as normal - same for barrel as this stuff is corrosively primed.

Having had an AK freeze a bolt shut on me.....yes, clean it. I did the "eh it's an AK i'll clean it tomorrow" thing and had to kick the bolt open.

Never had an issue using 7.62 brushes (borrowed from a M240 kit) and associated hardware.

Look for the old sks cleaning kits at the gun shows, super cheap and right for the purpose.Of
course I use bore snakes for just about everything now.
