Coyotes (with pictures) taken with a lever gun.
Ok, lever operated bolt action (and with a scope) but it isn't something you see often. I've been reading the Forum here for a few years and thought you might enjoy. Both were spot and stalked.

BLR in .308 shooting 150 gr with a Weaver 4x. I was thinking of selling it but I do like to carry it and have good luck with it in the field rather than at the range.
Happy New Year.

Nice! Welcome...would you be so kind as to offer hints into the hunting strategy, seems as thought the only time I see them is when I do not have a rifle in my hand.
Re: Coyotes (with pictures) taken with a lever gun.
Come to New Mexico.
Re: Coyotes (with pictures) taken with a lever gun.
Now that is my kind of introduction . Welcome to the fire. How are you hunting them are you calling them in or just shooting them as you find them?

Step One - have a rifle in your hand all the time...Old Time Hunter wrote:Nice! Welcome...would you be so kind as to offer hints into the hunting strategy, seems as thought the only time I see them is when I do not have a rifle in my hand.
(sorry, couldn't resist)
Seriously, 'strategies' shared for hunting 'yotes would be appreciated. My son stalked one and killed it with his deer-hunting bow, which I still find incredible.
P.S. I took the liberty of shrinking the pics so they'd post directly...

Welcome and great start

Re: Coyotes (with pictures) taken with a lever gun.
Thanks.
These are both from our prairie farm in Alberta. I can't claim any really calling prowess except that the First Time I did a call last December 3 coyotes showed up almost at my feet (there was thick cover just ahead of me): I then proceeded to screw up the Shooting.
The Blonde Coyote showed up after I had stopped calling and was about to give up. Just sauntered down to take a drink from the Dugout: I couldn't believe my luck.
The second saw me come in (I think) to my first calling stand from quite some distance. Nothing happened during calling and as I was getting up to leave saw it again running away down another coulee. I figured what the Hey and went for a walk to have a look. Tracks led into a large thorn thicket...but I didn't see any tracks out. That's when it busted out running uphill. Dropped onto my butt into the Snow for the Shot.
I am also learning that predator calling gets deer moving too.
BTW my .22 is a BL-22 and my other .22 is a Vickers Empire. My last bolt action is up for sale: just don't like them for some reason.
Cheers.
