That's a pretty neat little smoke pole there. And with a plum colored receiver to boot. :P There's a bunch of guys over on the The Ruger Forum that just get all slobbery over plum colored guns. Matter of fact they got a thread running in the gallery right now.

So ... how's it shoot?

That looks like a fun plinker.
I've always kinda wanted one, but never enough to part with the big bucks.

That looks fun to shoot. I like the 7.62x39 in my Mini-30. With your rifle and good handloads you should have a great short to medium range deer/pig rifle. Funny thing, the current Guns and Ammo magazine has an article on this cartridge. You might want to look at the article for some information. I have had the best groupings with H322 and 123 to 125 grain JSP bullets. H335 works well for me also.

thanks I will look for the G&A mag.

I was looking in my hornady 4th ed and they are listing some 150 gr loads with IMR 4198 and RL7 @ 2100 fps out of a sks.the ruger has a 22" barrel so it might be a little faster?.
thanks for the heads up.

I guess he has had it a while. As I understand it they don't make those stocks any more. I know a guy that uses one in AK for his 'bou rifle in .223. I do like those stocks though.

The only way it could of been a better deal is if it was a left handed bolt. Hope you enjoy it and pop a few pigs with it 3leg

Hey! That's a great idea from Ruger and smarts to you for snagging it. :D Every gun chambered for the 7.62 X 39 is junk in the accuracy department. As we know, there are no inherently inaccurate cartridges--its the guns they are chambered in. So, you get an accurate rifle with lots of cheap ammo--neato

Can I have it? :D ---------------Sixgun

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but does anybody know if the bore diameter on the Ruger 7.62x39mm bolt actions are like the Mini-30 (.308 Bore vs. .311) ?

Nice catch their Txpete, I wish I had the money to by a new but discontinued SS about 4 years back. I was as always low on money ( the story of my life), and I couldn't strike the iron while it was hot. The dealer wanted 3 bills for it new in the box.

Aren't the later Mini-30s .311 bore? I've no idea regarding this rifle but it's a pretty neat item, that's for sure.

Similar style Ruger in 7.62x39, similar stock but with wood panels and rifle is stainless. I thought they were .310 bore diameter. If anyone knows with certainty, I'd love to know. Made at least 10 years ago.The calibre is not inherently inaccurate but I think some of the surplus ammo in this calibre is.

That is a good question. I've been wanting to pick up one of these Rugers in 7.62X39 for a while, but every time I find one they are $450-$500 (blued, not SS) and look like they've been drug around behind a truck.

Thanks for coming back and pointing out they still catalog one, the reason I asked on bore size is concerning bullet availability which is far from a problem with .308 bullet (reloadable brass is another issue), but the field gets real narrow on the .311 stuff.

But on other hand doesn't trying to shoot a .311 JACKETED bullet down a .001 smaller bore cause a high pressure spike if you shoot the cheap import fodder?
