Can the manufacture date of a Rossi M92 Puma be determined?

Post by levallois »

Just got an SRC without the top safety, serial no. K1008XX, imported by Interarms - only markings on the barrel has "38 spl-357 mag*"- upper tang marked "Amadeo Rossi S.A. - Made in Brazil" - left side has "Model 92 SRC" over Interarms over Alexandria, Virginia. I read somewhere that Interarms went out of business in the early 90s? Any info. out there that can be used to narror this down to a single year? Thanks!

John,

Welcome to the forum.

Interarms is gone. The early 1990s is the correct timeframe. Rossi has been manufacturing the 92 since about 1976. Older Rossi 92s were labeled "Model 65". They were also called "Puma", and some had a cat's head medallion on the left side of the receiver. Legacy Sprots International, LSI, is the "reorganized" Interarms. LSI still calls their 92 a "Puma". The SRC, quite often, did not always have a saddle ring. Steve Young, of:

I have an Interarms Rossi 20 inch, pre safety, serial K020XXX. I pinged Mike at M&M a year or so back and he put it manufactured "1980, give or take", so I would think both of yours sometime early 80ies, but just my guess. Jim

Thanks alot for the information. I got mine out of the safe and it is K0172xx. I bought it from a friend last October and it only about 10 rounds fired through it.He had bought for his son from a man that bought it new and never fired it.I need to get a few things from Steve and slick it up some.

My 16" Interarms M92 is K0798XX. Nice little rifle.

I just picked up a Rossi puma serial number I n the K 066 range. Took it out this morning and it shoots well as a single shot....won't even think about cycling a round from the tube. American eagle brand ammo. Other than contacting NKJ any suggestions. I wondered why a 30 year old gun was like new condition. DAGNABBIT! Thanks Tom

Not to take this thread in a different direction, the above example is why I have dummy rounds. It never hurts to check for proper functioning before the purchase. I have had a couple, not many, older Rossi 92s that would not feed properly. 1886

Don't know how far back in time that this will work, but Rossi has a model information look up in their site:

I have two Interarms Rossi M92, a K043xxx and K067xxx, purchased in 1986 and 1991 respectively... both new-in-box direct from Interarms thru my dealer.

As for ammo feeding thru the tube, it has to be under about 1.59" in overall length.

And, as you can see above, some ammo can vary wildly. The bullet shape also figures into the process of transferring ammo from the magazine to the chamber.

I've generally found that semi-wadcutters are poor feeders.

The Rossi site won't work for the older ones. I still have not found a date of manufacture for mine yet.
