I need to pick the collective brain again...................

Post by Rifleman336 »

Hi Guys,

I'm in the market for a .38 Caliber (.358) bullet mold with a rounded or semi rounded nose, for the ole' levergun, and the ability to take gas checks. I'd like it to be in the 158Gr to 180gr weight category.

Anybody knows who makes such an animal??? Or who could.

Thanks,

"could" is a no brainer. Design your own at http://mountainmolds.com/

The "standard"/"most useful" .358 out there is the Lyman 357158HP (GC) - available almost anywhere. It's the Keith Gas-checked HP that is the bullet in the LSWCHP .38+P

The Lyman Keith 180 (don't remember the # is also good, but is not a GC bullet.

I'm looking for a non-SWC style bullet for smoother feeding.
So I forgot to put that in the opening part...........................My bad.

If your rifle isn't feeding SWC's correctly THAT is what needs fixing - not getting another mould.

A properly tuned gun is a reliable gun.

Mine will feed almost anything (though I haven't tried pure wadcutters...)

BUT, like I said, if you have a specific design in mind, mountain molds will make you a fine mold to your design.

I have 3 he's made for me.

Well it feeds the SWC's, but you can feel the difference between the SWC's and round nose lead.

I am looking for a different style style bullet over the SWC. I'll check out that web site you suggested.

The LBT 358-180 LFN or WFN are great molds. I've not shot the 160. Veral's molds are first class.

Dan's molds at mountainmold are great too.
Kind regards,

You May want to check with Ranch Dog that posts on here. He has designed several modes that are made by Lee for use with Leverguns.

The RCBS 200 gr. FNGC is hard to beat. You can get them from Montana Bullet works sized up to .359.

The Saeco 180gr FNGC is a great bullet. It is a well made mould and bullets are accurate outta my Puma and feeds like a black lab puppy in wool socks on a freshly waxed floor :D Have 2 Saeco molds and am really impressed with them.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!
