OT: Pizza Delivery charge survey in your area

Post by J Miller »

As some of you know my wife delivers pizza for a living. She uses her own vehicle and receives a reimbursement from the company. We are doing a survey of local pizza places to see what they charge for delivery for comparison to what the company my wife works for charges.

If you get pizza delivered could you post how much the company charges,
which company it is and your city.

We'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Joe

We no longer use delivery pizza. For us it's Papa Murphy take and bake ONLY. :D

The local "brands" in Rockwall, TX like Napoli's and Luigi's that have several stores each in the area do not charge for delivery within the County. They do not deliver out of the County. The Pizza Hut delivers within two zip codes for free as long as the order is $20 or more.

Dominos and Pizza Time are 2.50, but I really prefer Papa Murphy's by a wide margin. There's a couple new wood fired oven pizza places that are wonderful, as well and they are all eat in or you pick 'em up.

We use several different pizza shops, but only a few are National chains, like Domino's, Papa John's, & Papa Gino's - the rest being small, owner-operated stores (curiously, mostly Greek owners).

There's SO many choices, here in RI, that NO pizza shops charge a customer for delivery.

I, too, alway tip at least $5, and get excellent service (hot pizza, too ;) ) .

We have to drive 5 miles to meet them in a parking lot  vs. 7 miles to just go to a Pizza restaurant or grocery store, so we don't do it.

Back in the seventies, At Fort Ben Harrison, we would always go to Noble Romans Pizza...is that still there? I thought that was some of the best pan pizza ever.

Topic drift.... just ride the current....

No charge hereabouts but the cost of the pizza is so darn high we get frozen pizza or just go out to eat it. So, they do charge, but you can't winkle out exactly how MUCH they charge. I also tip, but when we did this it was always a different driver, nobody remembered me and I got zero benefit from it.

FWIW, most pizza shops here are computerized (one of my son's friends is a franchisee), and when a customer calls, the caller ID automatically brings up the customer file onscreen so their last order can be seen - AND the cust is already flagged as a "premier" custoner (good tipper), or not, so the shop knows who they're dealing with, and acts appropriately. We live about 5 miles outta town and we normally get from Domino's !
Lets see we usually get two mediums for $12.00 plus tax which is I think 11% in our county now for foods and the bill is usually $15.05 so i would say the guys here get no more then $2 !
I always hand then a $20 and say no change so they get $4.95 tip which is about 33% !

I don't know about Domino's paying them well but I think i tip fair enough !

Oh FWIW Pizza Hut is only 3 miles from us and they will not deliver more then 2 miles outside the town limits ! We live maybe 1/2 mile past where they deliver even though they drive across town and go out almost as far as we are for an actual longer delivery ! GO FIGURE !

$2.50 per pizza, usually order 2 and they charge $5. Wife eats that yucky Pizza Hut fake pizza stuff, I only use the real Italian place where they still hand toss and spread...and use real Italian ground sausage, sauce (real Italian sauce is "sweet", not sharp semi taco junk), hand cut onions, mushrooms, and black olives (keeps me from adding salt, a no-no according to my doc). Of course they also put the toppings on TOP instead of burying them under the cheese. Same delivery guy too, since they are right next door to each other.

Sorry but we don't have pizza delivered. It's either Roundtable if we're in a hurry, Papa Murphy's if not in too big a hurry or we make it ourselves. The wife makes the best crust around.

I do have a question for you though. Does your personal car insurance cover your private vehicle when used commercially? There have been some issues of insurance carriers not covering accidents while delivering pizzas etc. They will cover if there is a commercial rider to the policy or some such thing.

jcw,

We changed insurance companies six months ago just for that reason. We got the policy written so that my wife is covered if she's delivering and is involved in an accident.
Our old company did not cover us that way.

Joe,

I discovered this evening (excuse me while I lick some sauce from my lips) that a local Mom and Pop place charges $1.50 for delivery. I didn't get delivery, we ate at the restaurant, but that is what they charge.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I'm not sure. We haven't had a pizza delivered in over a year. Our favorite pizza is made at a store about a 1/2 hour away. Well worth the drive, but they don't deliver. I imagine they need to be charging something, though I do live in a state with some of the cheapest gas in the country. We're still well under $4.00/gallon.

Ten dollar minimum order and $2.50 delivery charge. $5.00 tip to the driver. Pizza Hut. There's only 3 pizza joints in town that deliver might make a difference.

I have at least a dozen different pizza shops within 3 miles of my home. Unfortunately, the competition doesn't keep the prices down. Down south and out west pizza is way cheaper. A fully loaded pizza here (large) is about 18-22 $$ :?

Thanks, Tom

The reason I asked about delivery charges is my wife gets paid a reimbursement of $1.25 per delivery order. This is to cover her gas and vehicle maintenance. We calculated it out a couple days ago and found she's paying much more for gas alone than they are reimbursing her.
So she's in the hole.
We called around to the other local Pizza places and those that deliver charge between $1.70 and $2.50 on top of the pizza price for delivery.
Wifes gonna hit management up for more money. If that don't work she may have to look for other means of employment.

Free delivery here on Oahu but on Maui I lived so far in the sticks I was out of their delivery range.
Nowadays been eating frozen if at all due to tight finances, and only when on sale.
