Those dogs are awesome. I've been to a few hot jobs at work where the dog squad are sniffing out the offenders for us, always good seeing em do their thing.

Military and dogs are a great subject. While I was in the peace time army back in 1961 thru 1964 I was stationed in West Germany in a calvary unit. One troop had a big Black German Shepard they called "TROOP". Quite a dog, adopted by that troop as a pup. He was military in many ways. Would respond to commands at formations, sat next to his platoon, would sit at attention until the command "At Ease" then relax, was sharp as a tack. Didn't like civilians, and loved to try and ambush several junior officers when they were around. Would almost always obey the First Sgt. and was a good guard in the field. They finally had one of the men take him home when he rotated back to the U.S. Seems the officers were getting to be afraid of him. Quite a dog and friend of all the enlisted and NCO's. They are smart.

Oh military dog stories. I got a bunch. All centered around three firehouse dogs we had at Torrejon. Spot, Little Spot, and Jennifer. They sure made life more pleasant.

Most interesting. I've still yet to see a dog wearing goggles. That would be interesting.

Interesting websites, both the original one and Gunny's too.

You know, as I sit here with my Lab just 3 feet away -- sleeping, of course  -- I can't help but think of the morale boost that a canine companion could provide the troops as one of the last pix shows.

Very interesting to see them jumping out of helo's though!
