Interesting 1892Win

Post by Thunder50 »

Wish I had a camera to take pics. Was at a local gun shop the other day and a guy had a '92 takedown, 51XXX s/n in maybe 85% shape, possibly 90%. Great bore. OBFM in 44 Wcf. Beautiful gun.

Also had a '61 Win in 22WRF with an octagonal barrel and what looked to be d&t for scope bases on the barrel, Unertl style. We were wondering if it was a factory D&T as it was well done. Gun was also in about 85% or better

Also had a Colt Service Ace 22 NIB 43XXX s/n

Thunder 50,

A 51xxx serial number, (it was probably less than 51500) would have been stamped on the receiver in November of 1895. The rifle would have been fully assembled and in the warehouse between December 1895 to February 1896.

If you can tell me the name and contact info for the shop I would like to get some info on the 1892 for my survey.

If the owner will send me a photo or two of the Model 61 I should be able to tell you if it is factory or not.

I see you are a fellow petroleum geologist! Cool. Great job.

Thanks
Michael
