OT - Becoming Sub Senior

Post by 6pt-sika »

Sub Senior's a term used by the National Skeet Shooting Association to define those 50-60 . So I'm still Sub Sub Senior LOL's !

Anyway I was just wondering and maybe some of our uhm more SENIOR members can tell me !

When one reachs that 50 year old milestone is it typical for them to be less tolerant of people who say not bright things or fail to listen to reason ?

I've got a little over a month before reaching that milestone , but it seems lately I've been hearing an overabundance of less then inteligent statements from folks that come in our Gunsmith Shop !

Sorry, I can't help you out on that one. It has been almost 23 years since I turned 50. I see and hear so much incompetence now, surely it wasn't like that back then.

I'll hit 50 in August and I've noticed the same thing. Maybe it's just bad attitude on our part  .

You know you may have meant that as an insult , but to be honest I'd be happy to be a "MOMMAS BOY" as you put it , if only my mother was still alive :!:

I'll answer in a few; driving.

Ok, parked:

I think the subject is very individual dependent. However, since it's been a decade (and almost a year) since I turned 50... I think that it's all a matter or patience. Inversely related to age. As youngsters, we're very impatient to learn everything... then as we grow older, we grow impatient with the impatience of youth... Somewhere in our 40's we realize that although we've learned a great deal in that time, there's probably specific interests that you want to learn more about. We become more focused on those things that interest us, almost to the exclusion of others. When we encounter the "stupid" question, we sometimes feel that this takes time, becoming shorter all the time, for us to learn the more detailed aspects of a subject.

Sorta something like Terry's (and I paraphrase), "... you don't know enough to ask an intelligent question..." You can't be expected to make up for an individual's lack of learning in what seems to be decreasing days we have left... You're feeling your mortality. Even tho' I'm assuming, I think I understand Terry's frustration with open-ended questions. I've asked enough over the years and been slapped just like that. And each time, once I got over my hurt ego, I realized that I had a very specific question, but asked one much broader in scope, just so I wouldn't sound like I didn't know as much as I'd like to. Kind of a connundrum.

The very hardest lesson for some of us, is that, "...you learn much faster when you keep your mouth shut!" Unlike a lawyer in court, who should only ask questions he already knows the answers to, you have ask questions in a sequence of small steps to continue getting nuggets of info, without seeming to drain the fountain.

"What's the best levergun," is a good example; yet, we've all seen it posted many, many times... Sometimes, our individual answers will vary, depending on our point of view. Mine being almost entirely related to hunting deer and cowboy action shooting... with maybe a little silhouette thrown in. But, maybe the query was intended to gain other info.

Another aspect may be that I don't know very much about a particular subject, I can quickly and succinctly answer; whereas, Terry, who is much more knowledgeable on a much broader scale on guns than I ever hope to be... needs more specific questions than I do, otherwise he's wasting time trying to sort thru what the inquirer already knows, or useless information that the inquirer is not interested in, finally getting to the real point of the question. That's frustrating for anyone.

On other aspect, is that by the time you reach your 50's, you've encountered lots of instances where you're been asked a question when the askor already has a preconceived idea and your answer doesn't fit his notions... ergo, you are a dummy. Why set yourself up for that? And, then there's always the possibility, very slight, that you recognize a bit of yourself in the other party!

It is what it is. Don't sweat it.

Oh yeah, just my opinion, and worthless to just about everyone else. Terry, didn't mean to pick on you, just that you're never blase, always to the point, and, maybe... just a bit impatient. Admirable traits... all! Plus, when you do get an intelligent question, I almost always learn something.

My ole man used to say, "Up to age 55, all ya proved is ya know how to look both ways before ya cross the street. AFTER that, ya gotta be tough, because gettin old ain't fer sissies." I'm due to hit 55 in a couple of months. With the way this year has started, (cardiac scare, cancer, glaucoma getting worse, etc) I see he knew what he was talkin about.

Words of wisdom? Heck I dunno. Never waste a "cialis" moment, and never trust "gas"..... :)

Dang, you might be onto something. I never thought of it that way. Over the years I just kind of started to accept the fact that I'm a MORON MAGNET. If there is a moron anywhere within a 3 county area to where I am at any given time that moron will strangely be attracted towards me. When I was younger it used to bothe me quite a bit but now I've accepted the fact and learned to expect it.

Actually it WAS you Griff,
We have talked about this before.
Seems if two people are posting and submit near the same time, the one that gets there first shows up and the 2nd one gets dropped.

Ya seem to be sayin' "the early-bird gets the worm;" or maybe the software is comparing the two answers and pickin' the "better" one??!! :P

In my case, each time I lose a response, it's strictly due to my internet connection, 'cause I'm 100% wireless on a Sprint card.
