OT: Not sure if I said this but...
I got picked for a New Hampshire moose permit. I was very much surprised to see my name listed among the winners of this years moose permit lottery.
The zone I was picked is a tough one and it will not be as easy as hunting in the North Country as in the past. This hunt will involve more walking around than spot and stalk.
I know this is a levergun forum but I plan to use a 45-70 Govt but in a specialty handgun.

Good Luck and sounds like a great time, even if you don't take an animal. Pretty surroundings and a physical challenge.

They are not. If you are drawn you cannot apply for three years. I won back in 2003 and then my mother won in 2004. So I have been able to take two moose with a handgun( TC Contender) so far. I cannot believe my luck with this situation. This will be a tough hunt. The zone has a sixty percent success rate vs some northern zones that are 80 percent and above.

What kind of handgun will you be using (hey, maybe it's an Encore, and those have a 'lever', well, sort-of anyway - so it would be on-topic... ).
Was the choice in part due to the rugged terrain, figuring a holstered handgun, even a huge one, would be easier to clamber the hills/timber with than even a short carbine?

Moose no 1 was taken with a TC Contender and a Super 16 barrel chambered in 45-70. Moose no 2 was taken in with a 14" 375 JDJ. I was planning to take moose no 3 with the same Super 16 45-70 but it is off to TC for replacing a barrel locking lug and one of the fore end tenons pulled out . I just hope that it doesn't take too long.

Your mom must be pretty tough to handle one of those 375 jdj's; I've heard they have a stout recoil.
