Just introducing myself!
Howdy! I'm pleased to finally be registered here and thought I'd introduce myself. I found this forum and have been lurking for a couple weeks enjoying all the knowledge you guys have to share on leverguns, reloading, cast bullets, etc. I spent my first year or two of deer hunting as a kid carrying a 1953 Winchester 94 in .30-30, but was too eager to graduate to my grandfather's post-64 m70 in 7mm rem mag. It had a scope and was a cannon compared to the .30-30, etc. I'm sure you know the mentality. I hunted with that 7mm for years, shot some deer with it and had no real complaints other than how ugly that gun is. I always kept that model 94 but never really gave it any attention on the range or in the woods. Then a year or two ago I needed to buy some ammo and saw the price of my preferred brand of ammo for my 7mm! Wow! I decided to save 40 bucks a box and give the 94 a chance in the woods. And even though I didn't get the chance to shoot any deer with it, I was immediately impressed with how that .30-30 carried, handled, and pointed in the woods! I used to think that real hunters shot bolt actions, but my tune is changing. I'm even more and more interested in remington pump rifles! I still love my other guns, but now I'm hooked on levers and thanks to you guys, my want list of lever actions is growing! I've never been a reloader, but the more I read on here, the more I want to start, and the more I want to get into shooting cast bullets/boolits as well! So while I would like to say thanks for such a great and friendly site, my fiance may not be so happy I found you guys!

Welcome. The coffee is warm, the chatter is friendly, and there's always a place to put your feet up near the stove and relax.

& Welcome. Reloading is rewarding, both in terms of cost and personal satisfaction. It is a fun hobby in its own right... but you can become mired in the debate: "Do I shoot to reload, or reload to shoot?" Don't worry about that... everone forgets that "more" belongs in there after the word shoot anyway!
My only advice is to read everything you can on the subject and to buy and refer to as many reloading manuals as you can. For my money, you can't get a better tutorial than Lyman's Reloading Handbook. Ther are also many other publications by various component and equipment manufacturer's that provide good information also. If you can find a mentor, especially one with different types and models of equipment to "try before you buy" so to speak, you'll save mucho dinero in the long run!

Re: Just introducing myself!
Bunyan, my story mirors yours. I bought this 94 30-30 new in 1957 when I was 16. I shot a number of deer with it where I was raised in wisconsin, and then california when I moved west. One of them was a buck at 220 yards. I had put on a williams foolproof and a pad for length of pull. I started accumilating many guns and the 94 didnt see daylight out of the back of the safe for a good 35 years! I then inherited a 30-06 remington pump of dads when he died, and it also sat in the back of my alongside the 94 for the next 8 years. Last year I took both to the range to sight them in. I got a huge pleasant surprise! Both guns were still spot on and both far more accurate than I expected after shooting my bolts with scopes! Both are far lighter and faster to shoot than my heavier and more awkard bolts with scopes. Shame on me all those dead years! I tried to post a picture of the remington pump too, but got a message it was too big.

That's for sure!game keeper wrote:Welcome to the friendliest gun forum there is...
I found this place by accident several years ago and they ain't got rid of me yet!
My first deer was with a Win. 95 SRC that i picked up cheap at a show
because it had been altered with a recoil pad and a receiver sight.
Shortly after that, my Dad gave me Grandpa's custom Springfield '06
and I killed a pile of game with it.
Was doing a search on a Marlin in .256 and eneded up here.
Still don't have the .256 but have made a bunch of friends!
Welcome to the fire and set a spell. There's a lifetime of knowlege here!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
ollogger, I picked up the bunyan monicker from some coworkers after I started wearing my wool plaid jacket in the winter. I'm tall and have a beard, so they started calling me bunyan. I'm no logger, but I did study wildlife.
I'm afraid pics will have to wait. I've been around online forums for a few years and just have never gotten around to learning how to post a photo. It may be time to learn!

It's really not that hard (check out the one sticky above) and we've kind of adopted posting pics as a necessary part of this forum.bunyan wrote:It may be time to learn!

Welcome Bunyan. Like the others have said, you will find many here with a wealth of knowledge that you can draw from. Sounds like you got a good lever. Now you just need to find yourself a good big bore sixgun to go with it.

Rusty, I'm a big fan of revolvers, particularly as carry guns. I only own one revolver right now, a colt python in .357. But I have a hankering in a big way for a .45 colt. One of these days!
