Favorite ammo brands
Do you guys have a favorite ammo brand? I my self am a fan of winchester for center fire rifle, shotgun, and handgun. But for rim fire rifles I am a huge fan the remington bulk pack, it shoots great in all my rifles. My single six is a bit picky it likes the winchester power points.
My go to loads for hunting and protection are:
Turkey load is federal #4 3" 12ga
deer load is winchester 170 power point 30-30 (also like cor-locks)
Elk Load is winchester 180 accubond 30-06
Dove and quail any 7 1/2 or 8 in any gauge
personal defence
.40 s&w winchester 155 silvertips
12ga 00 buck winchester ranger

Well I just love Remington Green Box ammo in 30-30, 35 Remington, and .357. Too bad I can't afford it. I also really liked the Magtech .357 which has the same specs as Remington, and strikes about the same.
Just don't like Winchester or Federal much.

"I'll tell you what living is. You get up when you feel like it. You fry yourself some eggs. You see what kind of a day it is."
For brands, I've always preferred Winchester and Federal. Their brass typically runs to the heavy side, and that usually indicates longer case life when reloading, as long as other proper things are performed in the process.
I don't hunt anymore, just target shoot and plink. Most of the ammo I shoot is reloaded, with some milsup stuff that I've cabbaged over the past 20-some years.

Might as well face it, you're addicted to guns . . .
I seem to prefer Winchester Supreme and Federal Premium over the Remington brand for most of my rifle shooting/hunting. A few calibers such as 7mm and .300 saum, .350Rem mag, .35 Whelen, 338/06 are only loaded by Remington or Nosler, so I use a "custom loading" company for most of them. With all the variables present, it's strange how shooters will ABSOLUTELY choose 1 brand over all others because of 1 or 2 incidents (I include myself in that phenomena)

That which goes BANG! My handloads first. The ONLY new factory ammo I buy is Federal .30-30 150gr, just about any 32. S&W Short and .38 S&W I run across. The S&W ammo is for my "Lemon-Squeezer" and top-break 5 shooters!

ammo
Every deer, and the one elk I killed, all fell to Winchester Silvertips. Never had one get up, or run much at all. The .22's I tend to look for sales for plinking ammo, but Federals have worked good, and the green box too. I guess my favorite .22's were the Peters, real clean and bright looking ammo.
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

Winchester, whether it comes to factory ammo or reloading components.lever-4-life wrote:Do you guys have a favorite ammo brand?
For 12 ga. shotgun I use Winchester AA hulls, AA wads, and Win 209 primers. I use Alliant e3 powder for light target loads, Winchester AA Super Handicap Powder for heavy target loads.
For rifle and pistol I only use Win brass.
