It never ends, does it?

Post by awp101 »

I was in a shop making a layaway payment when I saw it: a Swede carbine in a Monte Carlo stock. I don't know if it was a true Model 1894 since the year was scrubbed and replaced with an Interarms import stamp.

At $470 it's probably overpriced but if things work like they normally do at this shop, it should be there for a while. Hopefully long enough that I can roll plenty of pennies.

It never ends, does it?

I guess I must come clean. There was a time about 20 years ago I told my wife I thought I had all the guns I wanted.

The next thing I know within 12 months I bought probably 20+ more!

Nope, she never said a word......

I don't seam to want things anymore. I'm not sure what changed in me but I don't buy anything anymore. The wife does most of the buying. If I can afford to shoot and wear out a few of my guns in my lifetime, I'll be happy. My list of wanted guns is small and the specimens are out there but I will wait until the time is right to go after them.

Yes Sir, because of our stupid UK restrictions I have parted with many "keepers" just because I keep finding guns I can't live without! :?

That sporterized Swede probably is an 1894, because Interarms imported nearly all 1894s that are in the US, in two batches. The first lot imported have barrels that are not even 16" long, and the second lot have little extensions that Interarms welded on. The ATFE later grandfathered all the former <16" carbines as "acceptable" and decided not to quibble over a silly five or six millimeters.

Just keep in mind that resistance is NOT futile. Resistance is voltage divided by current.

Don't get me wrong guys, I didn't say I wanted it to end! Perhaps a better question would have been "Does it ever get any easier?"

Thanks for the Swede info Noah! I seem to recall correct 1894s were pushing $700+ last time I looked so I think they are still $100-125 too high (give or take). With shooter grade/sporterized 96's running $250-300, I'd be willing to spend a little more for a real 1894 vs a cut down 96.
