Had a good hunt

I took off work last Monday to do a little hunting, the weather over the weekend wasn't very conducive for hunting with high winds blowing. Monday the winds layed and it was a cool and crisp day. I stayed out all day and was rewarded with this nice buck at last light. The rut was on and he was following a doe and stepped out into a small opening, he sensed me I guess and stepped back behind some trees where I couldn't see him. The waiting game started and he was more interested in the doe then me and just before too dark he stepped back out, I squeezed the trigger and he bucked up and ran. I waited a few minutes and went to where I last saw him and picked up the blood trail with my flashlight and stated tracking him through the woods. He went about 75 yards or so and I found him. My shot was a tad high and missed his heart but took out both lungs, he lift a good blood trail to follow so the tracking was easy.

Thanks for all the comments. I was using my side lever gun, AKA bolt action, in 7mm-08 using 150gr bullets. The shot was about 150yards broad side. Without having a real good look at his teeth I figure he is 5.5 years old, I'll know once I get the jaw back from the taxidermist. Luckily I only had to drag him about 100 yards to a spot I could weave my truck into.
