For some reason this year was a banner year for accidents. I hope 2012 is far better in that regard.
NOT a good day in Massachusetts.

Re: OT: NOt a good day in Massachusetts.
I don't get it and an LEO to boot. The rules of safe firearm handling are there for a reason and when one shortcuts them someone always has the potential to get hurt. And, for something as stupid as target misidentification. I feel sorry for the lady and her husband as she'll probably fight this problem for the rest of her life. Yes, let's all hope this coming year is a safer one.
Better get rid of that OT in the opening subject line or you'll get your knuckles rapped by Hobie.

Old Law Dawg
Re: OT: NOt a good day in Massachusetts.
Having lived in the State of Taxachusetts for 7 years, I'm not
impressed with most law enforcement officers in that locale. This guy is
gonna get off scot-free, and the legislature will use it as an example
illustrating why guns laws in Massachusetts have to be so strict. "See what
happens when even a highly-trained, decorated veteran of the State's
premier law-enforcement agency goes hunting? How can we let the
common man have guns if a State Trooper can make this sort of error....?"
Yada-yada, bladda, bladda.......
As the article said - the trooper owns that shot. Unfortunately the lady is gonna
be crippled with essentially no recourse, financial or otherwise.

Maybe they'll punish the LEO with "paid administrative leave" - that's usually what they seem to do when a LEO accidentally kills an innocent person during a 'drug raid'.
Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws
"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.
