Depending on the type of glaucoma, laser surgery can help to prevent further damage.
The laser surgery is outpatient. Uncomfortable but not too bad.
My Dr. did each eye separately so that I could still see out of the other one for the rest of the day.
Your vision will be very cloudy in the treated eye for about 24 hours after.

Daily use of prescription (expensive) eyedrops will keep pressure under control.
The eye drops are forever.
Eye exams are scheduled every six months to watch for further problems.

Mine was detected and treated before any significant permanent damage was done.

I Don't do the doctor deal so-----------

JMHO
Take vitamin C, as Vitamin C is regarded as a "cure all vitamin". Studies show that by taking a minimal amount of 2 grams of vitamin c a day greatly reduces the pressure in the eyeball. Doctors who specialize in treating glaucoma patients often suggest taking 20 grams of vitamin c daily to aid in the continual reduction of eyeball pressure.

Take magnesium. The job of magnesium is to dilate blood vessels. Because of that fact, magnesium is given to glaucoma patients in effort to help improve their vision.

Take ginkgo biloba. Ginkgo biloba is an herb that creates many beneficial effects by regulating blood flow throughout the body.
Taking at least 40 mg three times a day can significantly improve the damage caused to glaucoma patients.

Take bilberry. Bilberry is an herb that is excellent for the care and improvement of a variety of vision problems, including glaucoma. Taking bilberry will improve the circulation in your body, by improving the circulation, the effects of glaucoma may improve as well.

Avoid excessive eye stress/don't smoke.

Yep, EVERYBODY, at one time or another in their lives, "hits the wall".

Although I hit MY wall 8 years ago, I found out a few weeks ago that the cataracts in both my eyes have escalated to the point that I'm gonna haveta get my eyeballs chopped/channeled (one at a time, o'course) fer new lenses in March.

'Hope I see ya agin' ! . ;)

Treat aggressively!!!!!!!!!!!

I was tentatively diagnosed with
"progressed" normal tension glaucoma in my early 40s. Lost lots of visual field, (like somebody is eating the pizza slices) in both eyes since. Thankfully binocular overlap means little picture loss with both eyes open, but it's a very real threat that I'll be legally blind before say 65 (I'm 55 now).....

It is good that it was discovered since glaucoma is stealthy and can damage eyesight if not treated.
Prayers offered up as well..

PS. It's FUN getting old, eh??? :o

There are many eye vitamins available. I need to call my Dad and find out the name of the one he is using to treat his Macular Degeneration. Whatever it is, he has actually reversed some of the decline. I don't know if it would help with Glaucoma or not. There is nothing to totally replace eyesight with, so don't dawdle.

Piller, you are probably thinking of Lutein. A very powerful carotenoid antioxidant derived from green leafy vegetables and helps protect the retina.

The product is called Macular Protect Complete by Science Based Health of Houston,TX. It does have Lutein as one of its ingredients, but the other 30 or so are also important. It is apparently much better than the Ocuvite that my Dad was using. While taking Ocuvite, he started getting Macular Degeneration. His Opthalmologist told him he would just go blind from it. My Dad heard about Dr. Ysasaga at Southwest Retina Specialists in Amarillo, TX, and Dr. Ysasaga (he goes by Eddy--his middle name) said it was reversible. My Dad is in remission, and hasn't needed an injection in his eye in over a year. The Macular Protect Complete is apparently doing its job.

Well, hope you don't have it and if you do you got to it before it did any major damage. Wishing you the best.
