Homemade: Leather Game Bird Carrier...

Post by cshold »

I realize this is about as off topic as you can get on a lever gun forum, but I thought
a few of ya’ll bird hunters may be interested.

Here in PA. our dove season comes in usually on Sept. 1st of each year.

And yes there’s still plenty of summer (hot) type weather at that time. :|

I for one hit the local field’s at this time of year in t-shirt, jeans, sneakers, a ball-cap,
a speed bag full of shells and nowadays one of my Parker girl's in hand.

Well every now and then I actually connect with a few of these little speedsters,
and thus enters a needed place to put them while in the field. :o

Well after doing some online research, the following four pictures where kind of what
I was looking for, but way to heavy duty for those little lightweight dove.

So the following four pictures after the first four are what I came up with
and made to suite my needs.
(just simple slip knots for around the birds legs or neck) :)

On days too hot for a hunting vest that looks to be just the ticket. I tried a shell bag last year to hold birds, and when I filled it up they bounced out and I lost some and spent 15 minutes finding em. With all the rain we are getting, liable to get a good bird crop this year.

Thanks guys :D
Now my next project is to make a divider for the speed bag.
One side for the live paper rounds & a side for the empties.

I thought you were supposed to use the box the shells came in to take the dove home :o

Looks like it'll work, Casa. I love working with leather. Not real good at it, but I like it.

Good job mike. I have two of the first picture hanging off my canvas bag. My canvas bag has a back pouch for lunch, bird carriers, place for my bird knife and room for enough shells. On the dove field, I drop the shells at my feet and clean up when I'm done shooting.
