"Lone Wolf" Gonzaullas's barbecue Colt SAAs.
This is the best photo I have seen of these particular ones. Note the triggers welded back for strictly fanning at close range. He is wearing them in this photo.

I wonder if this was a Posse or a CASS shoot in 1942 ? I love these old Pics RR but I don't see Sleeping Quarters in those Horse Trailers.

Very cool I can't imagine how deep a fellow's pockets would have to be to get something like that these days (if anyone does that sort of work anymore)

A lot of the late 19th and early 20th Century Rangers were fond of BBQ guns.

Pretty cool. Although none of my Colt SAA's are going to get their triggers welded. I can't wait for the SAA i have at the engraver's to be done.

Interesting horse also, doesn't look to me to be a QH, more like a 'big lick' type Tennesse Walker, but until seen moving maybe a plantation or flat footed walker?

Reckon he had more need of a long distance horse than a cow pony.

I second the notion that he rides a Tennesse Walker. This is the first pic I have ever seen of him, from all the stories I have heard, I thought he'd be bigger!

Re: "Lone Wolf" Gonzaullas's barbecue Colt SAAs.
He was a small man and liked to be seen. I asked him toward the end of his life why he like the fancy guns so much. He had owned over 50 in his life. He stated "that being fast and a good shot wasn't enough sometimes, you needed to be able to intimidate the bad characters when you came to town". "I had them made as fast and flashy as I could. The bad men, I figured out, thought if I had that style of gun that I probably sure knew how to use them and was proud of it. It might have helped stop me from having to kill more of them". He always said that Texas Rangers Frank Hamer and Bob Goss were the best shots with handguns he had ever seen, but he ran a close third. "Lone Wolf" served under and with both of them. He was a nice old retired Ranger when I met him; I'm sure he was dashing and something to see in the old days. RR7

I'm thinking Standardbred or one of the more Thoroughbred type QHs. One of my two QH full sisters has a lot of that look to her.
And that don't look like "everyday" tack either!

Great lookin' SAAs. I used to have a picture from a calendar of a pair of 45 1911s of his with the front of the trigger guards cut out. Some fancy engraving too. If I still had it, I'd post it.

WHAT,... no humongus beavertail grip safety, lowered/flaired ejection port, forward slide serrations, long guide rod or any other bells and whistles of the current breed of 1911's? My goodness, it's a wonder he survived any armed conflict if he had to use those antiquated autos.
