How's this for an oddball.

An "air"gun classified as a "firearm" by the ATF. This is one I have never heard of before.

I remember the Daisy! Acutally they are firearms; they use a .22 bullet with a propellant molded to the base. Not sure of the ignition source, compressed air? At the time I believe there were other manufacturers trying to perfect a "caseless" ammo too.

By coincidence Daisy brought the product to market at the beginning of the 1968 Gun Control Act.

They had hopped that because it was ignited by compressed air, it would be exempt.
The final ATF ruling killed the product.

Until a few years ago Numrich was still selling the ammo by the case or the brick.

We had one of those in the shop about a year or so ago on consignment and sold it on GB . Think we had two boxes of the ammo with it . And yes we required an FFL also .

If the ATF has their way a straw used to shoot a spit wad will be declared a Class 3 firearm.

I had one of those, back in the day - although not the fancy one. Mine had a woodgrain plastic stock, just like a BB-gun.

IIRC, they were classified as firearms ILO airguns because the caseless ammo, unlike airguns, contained gunpowder.
Some dealers treated them like airguns, others like firearms - today, most never heard of them.

Here's the air rifle Lewis & Clark used on their famous expedition:
