Went near a gun shop; shoulda known better

Post by Bill in Oregon »

So I took an old hammer double 16 in to have the barrels bobbed and to put a revolver on consignment, and what does the gunsmith have on the sale rack but a Remington Model 8 in pretty nice shape, very good bore, Marbles tang rear sight -- and 50 pieces of virgin UMC .30 Remington brass.
Well, I lasted all of about 20 minutes, and when he said I could take the thing home today and he would just take the $350 off my share of the revolver consignment, I was a goner.
Serial is in the 46,000 range, dating this one to 1921. Now I have model 8s in .30 and .35. Had one in .32. Never had the .25 ... yet.
I am just a sucker for this grand old John Browning design.

Sounds to me like you ought to stop in there more often. Good score on the Model 8.

Wow! Nice score there, Bill. Like ollogger says, the value of the sight alone is a fair chunk of what you paid for the rifle.
