I Couldn't Help Myself....
I took a Bud to lunch, and his LGS (he was just out of hospital, and had cabin fever)....Big mistake There was this H&R Ultra 25-06 sitting there for a decent price, and I offered him a low- ball price...and he
accepted, as long as it was cash...well... done deal. I've been promising myself a .243 single shot of some flavor, and I think this will fill the bill nicely. Just so happens I've had a Leupold VXIII 3.5x10 sitting around for a few years waiting on this one. BTW, it didn't come out of the Sharps budget , I'll just double down for a couple months and have a few more bean dinners I expect great things and long shots out of this one.

Cool!
Like the .25-06, I had a cousin that used one for just about everything.

Will those switch out barrels without having them fitted?

Re: I Couldn't Help Myself....
Those "Ultras" are nice. I have a 22 mag Ultra with a 22" barrel. I'm assuming yours has a 26" tube. The 2/06 is always a good reach out and touch it cartridge. Beware, the Handi's have a way "multiplying" taking over a gun safe. Its a case of some do some dont. I have 4 barrels that fit, and 2 i had to spend 15 minutes on,to get them to lock up
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Re: I Couldn't Help Myself....
Ive had several 25-06 and had good luck with the old milsurp 4831 powder.
I used the 100gr Noslers for deer and they will reach out there !

Yes and no.
I got away with it with a .22 Hornet, but that is not a .25-.06.
Check the serial number, rifle proffed frames begin with an Alpha character followed by the number, these frames are eligible for any barrel they make.
The web site lists these Alpha based serial # numbers.

Re: I Couldn't Help Myself....
Those Handis are good shooters. Mine are older, a .22 Hornet and a .45-70, but both are very accurate. I am lusting after a bull barrelled .223 Ultra that a friend of mine has. He has made many 300+ yard shots on Coyotes out of his tractor cab when out feeding cattle. I would also like to find one in either 30-30 or in my fav 30-06. Keep us posted on how the .25-06 works for you.

You might luck out and find one that will drop in and be good to go. I have 6 barrels, only one has been drop in.
If you are feeling a little salty, I have a 500 S&W barrel I could turn you on to.

Wait... just to clarify, do you have Handi Rifles in all of those calibers or other rifles in those calibers?BlaineG wrote:I actually won't need another, I would guess, unless it's a .223 or some such thing....I have the 25-06, .284, 30wcf, '06, .358, .375 Win, .405. .44mag, .444, and 45-70....I'm going into sell mode after the first of the year....harry wrote:NO.BlaineG wrote:Will those switch out barrels without having them fitted?

Just those other calibers....Only one H&R Ultra...if it shoots, might not be my last one (trigger is a hair heavy)damienph wrote:Wait... just to clarify, do you have Handi Rifles in all of those calibers or other rifles in those calibers?BlaineG wrote:I actually won't need another, I would guess, unless it's a .223 or some such thing....I have the 25-06, .284, 30wcf, '06, .358, .375 Win, .405. .44mag, .444, and 45-70....I'm going into sell mode after the first of the year....harry wrote:NO.BlaineG wrote:Will those switch out barrels without having them fitted?

Re: I Couldn't Help Myself....
Blaine,
Pretty much what hayseed said but I gotta add that I have a long relationship with the 25-06, since long before it became a commercial cartridge, and I just love it. The Sierra 100 grain (Game King?) hunting bullet it is a real killer. Can't remember what they call it but over a nearly max load of 4831 it's a scorcher. Mine was on a Springfield action with a Harry Lawson thumbhole stock. Killed a lot of whitetails with it plus coyotes, crows etc. Traded it for a chainsaw that I needed to keep my family warm.

Either way, a very nice (and useful) variety of calibers!

Re: I Couldn't Help Myself....
Gotta love them Handis. I got my stainless steel in .223 back when I was still on Maui. This gun will put 3 rounds into a dime at 100 yards all day. I was fortunate that it came with an excellent 2.5 lb. trigger right out of the box.
From what I gather the .243 in Handis are cursed with accuracy problems, none I have ever heard of gets MOA groupings. In a Handi the 25/06 a preferable chambering from what I gather.
